is it cheaper to boil a kettle using electric for washing up , than running hot tap till the combu boiler heats up the water ??

cheers :D

  • Cheaper still to wash up in cold water :D I know some people do but I haven't tried it, tbh. All I would say is, if whichever way you are heating your water requires it to be cooled down by adding cold water, then no question that you are wasting fuel (be it gas or electric). I have no experience with a combi boiler (my old bolier simply won't die and I'm not forking out for a new one until it does!) but I'm assuming you can turn the heat setting down so the water is coming out at the exact temperature required for the chore? If you can, maybe that's the way to go, although I suppose you could achieve the same result by stopping the kettle before the water got too hot also.

I dont think it`s relevant how old the boiler is for you because our combi is well old , thing is it takes a while for the water coming through to get hot so i`m thinking were wasting water AND gas ??
  • We have a dishwasher but people still wash just one cup in enough water to bathe with, it really gets my goat.

Simple save for a dishwasher and save all round.

Get a life get a dishwasher (its a line from a film a few years ago that really makes sense) life is to short for washing up, theres the lounge to be vacumed for a start....

I find it easier to wash up by boiling a kettle. diswashers use a lot of energy coz they can't wipe.

also try not using cutlery which is a pain to clean. try using a swiss army knife. the knife can be used to balance food. you can cut asparagus up with the scissors. then a quick wipe with some kitchen roll.

also try not using plates. it is easier to use old magazines. small puddings with high structural integrity can be put on dvds that you get in sunday supplements.

also no point using a glass for fruit juice. why not just have a lolly?

Our hot water is a little hotter than needs be for washing up (combi) but if I turn the tap on and use all the water from the hot tap, by the time I have a bowlful, it's the right temp. Can't be doing with kettles; the whole point of a combi is that you have hot water when you want it and, AFAIK, it's an efficient way of heating water.
