First time van driver
For a trip with extended family, I am thinking of hiring 9-seater Ford Tourneo. However, having never driven a van, I am a bit overwhelmed as to how different it would feel. I understand there may not be rear view mirror, the driver position is at a height so spatial awareness will be tricky. Also dimensions of the van are…

Top Box for Flip Front Helmet
I've got a PCX 125 scooter and I'm looking to put a top box on it. I'd like it to fit my flip front helmet, but I don't want too big a case. Can anyone tell me what size I should be looking at (thinking 30l but not sure). Can find lots that reference one full face helmet but are they big enough for my flip front? Thanks.

Land Rover on finance with Engine failure
We bought a Land Rover Discovery early Sept 2022. On the 27th of September 2022 we had a dashboard warning light coming on intermittently, we called the Car dealer who advised us to ignore it until the light stayed on permanently in order to be able to identify the problem. The intermittent light fault continued and on the…

Cars tax direct debits appearing ( unknown cars )
My partner sold a car. The person who purchased it was a dealer, but came over as a bit creepy. Transferred money to partners account, partner did the correct transfer with VQ5 etc. all good. About two weeks later he notices a direct debit set up for paying DVLA tax for some random vehicle he knows nothing about. Cancels…

How to value a car as of April 2020?
My friend is buying my car during May. We want to calculate what a fair selling price would be as at April 2020.....when I lent him the car which is Hyundai I10 S Oct 2015. I'm hoping there is some website where one can look up historical values....almost like a glass guide snapshot in time. Thanks

Your Bangernomics successes
Hello my fellow cheapskates. After spending nearly three years running a car for as cheap as possible, mainly as I ran it throughout all but he darkest depths of winter on WVO/UVO (waste or used vegetable oil), in a Vauxhall Astra I have had to say good bye to the old girl as it is no longer economical to repair to get it…

Who do you contact about someone fixing cars outside on main road
There's a boy on my road that buys cars to do up and sell and at the moment he has two cars fixing but none of them have an mot and one of the cars he drives now and again so I've reported it to the police and they said the lack of mot would need to be dealt with by the DVLA. I've looked on the DVLA website and it says you…

Air Con isn't working....again
Hi folks, I have a VW Polo. In Summer 2022 the AC stopped working. I took the car to a mains dealership and paid for an AC diagnostic and AC service. I believe they used some kind of dye to check if there were any leaks but none were found. The air con worked for a few days but then the hot weather went and there was no…

Early settlement on PCP. Do I need to pay 50% of Interest costs?
I bought a car on PCP 4 months back but want to sell it now. I was advised by my finance broker that I would pay the interest portion on the cash borrowed for the 4 months + a little extra but my finance company are asking me to pay 50% of the finance amount over the term of the loan. So over 4 years my finance amount was…

Returning EV after PCP
Hi - my car was due for collection at the end of our PCP contract. It’s a 2017 Nissan Leaf, but they refused to collect it as the battery only charges up to 60 miles. When we got the car 4 years ago it only had 86 mile range on full charge and I presumed this was standard fall in battery condition. It’s been serviced…

Inspection report to change engine number
Hi, after engine failed my local garage sourced and fitted a reconditioned engine for me. The receipt they gave me only shows 'engine supplied' with no engine number or confirmation its like-for-like and same cylinders. I want to sell the car asap and need to update the v5 engine number before I can do that. I asked the…

Autotrader - excluding/blocking Cinch
I’m currently looking for a replacement car and want to be able to view given the plethora of options (and Covid spec cars). When I search on Autotrader the first couple of pages are cars from Cinch available with a mile (because they’ll deliver to my local WBAC site) which leaves me trawling for the non-Cinch cars that…

Transmission problem Fiat 500L- high price quoted!
Hi all, I have a question regarding a transmission issue that I have with a fiat500l (2013). The car broke down the other day (started up, but wouldn't move off), taken to a local garage (official fiat dealer) and has gone through an initial diagnosis. It has been identified that the transmission fluid is leaking (as…

My car has been scrapped - but it hasn't!?
Hi All, Just received a tax refund for my car that I bought in December last year - I did not request one. I have not done anything other than use it and now have been advised that I can't as it's technically been scrapped. I have the V5 and the MOT is valid until October. I checked online and the car details could not be…

Nissan Qashqai maps update
My 65reg Qashqai sat nav is somewhat outdated. The obvious easy option is to connect it to Google Maps but sadly, it won't link to Android Auto. I see I can buy an updated SD card to plug in for £110 but surely, there must be a more MSE way?

MOT Mileage Wrong
A car I’m looking at buying seems to have the wrong mileage on its first MOT in December 2021, its down at just over 12,000 when it has less than 9000. Dealer thinks / presumes it’s been registered on MOT in KM rather than miles, seems rather complicated to get amended from what I read online. Should dealership correct…

Breakdown cover where annual full service isn't required?
A lot of the providers I find on comparison websites have in their terms, that you need to have the car serviced annually, and they may ask for proof before coming out. Does anyone know any providers that dont require this?
