Breakdown cover where annual full service isn't required?

A lot of the providers I find on comparison websites have in their terms, that you need to have the car serviced annually, and they may ask for proof before coming out.

Does anyone know any providers that dont require this?

Why would you not want to service your car

Not necessarily full service every year, sometimes just oil change

The AA don't require the car to be serviced, so went with them.

They want proof it has been serviced.

If you service it yourself, not only to save ££££ but also to make sure that it is actually done properly, then "proof" is going to be difficult, and proving that you have done a better job than most garages would is a chore that you don't need.

It's very unusual for a breakdown service to ask if you have serviced the vehicle

The only time any recovery are going to start asking questions about maintenance are if they're being asked to recover a pile of junk that's clearly not been touched in years, and which has had a lie-down as a direct result of that neglect.

If the official interval says two years, then nobody's going to insist you service it twice as often. Although it's probably a good idea for long-term longevity, rather than short-term cost-of-ownership...

This isn't realistic (I mean asking for proof).
My last breakdown was on a motorway where we were considered to be in danger.

This is one of those things in contracts to protect them from people who cause issues due to neglect.
They DO check for MOT but they it's not practical to expect you to provide proof before coming to rescue you.
They'd get load of bad press for that.

My last 3 or 4 cars have had the services recorded on the manufacturer's database - no stamp in a book to show anyone.

Anyway, so far as I can see the RAC don't have such a term, so one thing fewer for me to worry about.

I've been with rescuemycar for years. They have never asked for service history and it is less than £25 a year through Quidco.
  • i dont believe Green Flag have ever stipulated this. The only issue was they wouldnt cover a car over 16 years old.
