My car has been scrapped - but it hasn't!?

Hi All,
Just received a tax refund for my car that I bought in December last year - I did not request one.
I have not done anything other than use it and now have been advised that I can't as it's technically been scrapped.
I have the V5 and the MOT is valid until October.
I checked online and the car details could not be found so rang the DVLA and they informed me that they had received a certificate of destruction and that the car had been registered as scrapped.
DVLA want me to send in pictures and a copy of the V5 and they will investigate.
Other than being without a car while this saga is sorted what the hell could be going on!?

Someone typed it in wrong or someone scrapped a car with your registration plates on it.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

Or one of the vehicles is not the one it is purporting to be.0

This is the most likely.
You may have a V5C, but is your car the one that the V5C says? No signs of tampering with the stamped-in VIN, which tallies with the V5C itself...?
I checked everything out when I bought it and have just re checked all my documents and HPI check.
I have sent over the requested info and have to wait 48 hours and in the mean time not use the car.

I do hope so - it was hard enough to find the car I wanted within my budget! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Why not use it? If you are legal in every other way, use it if needed, it was only a request.0 -
