My car has been scrapped - but it hasn't!?

Commenting on this thread to help anybody else who searches for this issue. The EXACT same thing has happened to me. Bought a used car, 9 months later received a letter that a COD has been issued even though the vehicle is still in my possession. DVLA is of no use, and say that it is up to the scrapper to provide correct info and that I should bring it up with them. I am stuck with a car that I can not legally drive nor destroy and nothing can be done about it. Currently escalating this with my MP.
I will update this comment with any major developments on the issue, but know this: IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, DO NOT LET IT GO.0 -
IMO just keep using the car. It's not your fault that you cannot tax it. If you got pulled over by the police then you could explain to them the situation and maybe carry some paperwork in the car so you have a record to show them.0

Just driving the car would leave Jason exposed.
Jason - did you get the car registered to you after purchase 9 months ago? Do you still have the V5?
Edit: I suppose you must have, as you received the letter.0 -

Really bad advice. If the poster was stopped by the police. The vehicle would be seized for not being taxed, and there would be no way to get it taxed before it was crushed.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -

DVLA once made a mistake and ''scrapped'' a car that I owned.
At the time it was a nightmare to get them to correct the issue and took about 6 months0 -

Silly idea but have you considered talking with the Police. Once had a car for a warranty recall that the VIN did not come up on the system - called the Police and they took it away - turned out to be a very good rebuild of 3 cars. If you can get thenm to look at it and put something in writing then it might speed things up. Do you know any friendly Policemen?

Either yours is a cloned car or a cloned car has been scrapped?0
