This ^^
A lot of manufactures have a visible VIN through the windscreen, check that this marries with the V5C0 -

Well this issue is still ongoing - the DVLA are asking for all manner of pictures but fail to understand that a car that was designed in the 70's does not have what they are asking for! I was amazed the VIN sticker was still in the boot after all these years but even that plus the VIN plate in the engine bay plus lots of photos is still not enough.
The biggest problem for me is they are taking the full 3-4 working days to respond to each e-mail and phoning achieves nothing but frustration.

So it's an old vehicle (as opposed to just an old design)? That is new information and probably points to a clerical error rather than cloning done for profit.0

It's an old Porsche - the error stems from the place that sent in the certificate of destruction to the DVLA.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
And that error is...? Wrong VIN/plate?
Or sending the CoD in, then not scrapping it but selling it for repair?
Incorrect keying of the registration so my car is flagged as scrapped rather than the actual car that was scrapped. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Given how recently you've bought the car, you're absolutely 100% sure of that?
You're absolutely 100% sure there's no identity question mark over the car you have?0 -

Yes - VIN plate is in place and original with original rivets holding it in place along with the original build sticker in the boot with the VIN and option codes and everything tally's up with the V5 that I have in my name. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi there, I just came across your thread as I'm having the same problem. My car was written off Cat B in Dec 2018 but it wasn't. Never been in an accident. No damage. No incident. No claims made via my insurance. I only found out now as I am selling the car and the new owner is unable to tax it. I was not notified it had been scrapped at all, so quite crazy I was never pulled over having been nearly a year driving a car technically written off in error.
I called my insurer at the time and they sent me to DVLA, and DVLA sent me to MIB, and now I've filled out a form with them requesting access about the recorded cat B damage and scrapping. Would be good to know if you resolved it and if so how?
I can't believe an error like this can even happen, without any notification to the owner.0
