Hi. Just happened to me. Renewed my insurance this month and payed the full tax amount last month.
Last Friday got a check for 11months refund of my tax. Called dvla to find out why they have refunded me only to be told that my car was sold for scrap. Well the car is at my door I said.
Now have sent them photos of the car and vin number as well as log book. Called them today and got told that it can be 6 weeks before they get back to me. Problem is I need the car in the road and I can't. All I need to know is, if I hire a car while I wait for dvla to correct the obvious mistake who can I Seend the bill to? This is crazy that now a days with all the tech we have I have to wait as lond they are going to take to sort it with no fault of mine whatsoever. Anyone else resolved theirs. Thanks0 -

But as is would not be reclaimable it would be a fault claim. It is however very unlikely it would be covered.0

Presumably, you'd send the bill to the secretary of state for transport, as the minister responsible for the DVLA.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
DVLA advised me that my car had been scrapped a few weeks ago, even though it was still sitting outside my house. They sent me a letter telling me the shocking news and enclosed a cheque for the remaining road tax! I immediately rang them and explained the situation. They sent me an email with a link so I could send them photos of my car taken from all directions, plus the interior. They also wanted a copy of my V5C "log book". They advised me it could take up to 6 weeks to correct whatever had happened. I sent the email back with all the necessary information, then a friend suggested I should also email the CEO of DVLA, which I did, asking for her help in the matter and explaining how urgently I needed the car back on the road. I also said that if things were not sorted out within two or three days I would hire a car and send DVLA the bill. I was then pleasantly surprised when, 3 days later, an email arrived saying the car was no longer scrapped and advising me to re-tax it as it was no longer taxed. I am now happily back on the road in an unscrapped car!

Bought a used car, 9 months later received a letter that a COD has been issued even though the vehicle is still in my possession. DVLA is of no use, and say that it is up to the scrapper to provide correct info and that I should bring it up with them. I am stuck with a car that I can not legally drive nor destroy and nothing can be done about it. Currently escalating this with my MP.
I will update this comment with any major developments on the issue, but know this: IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, DO NOT LET IT GO.0 -

The same thing has just happened to me. I got no letter. No email. I only found out because I got a tax refund off DVLA. If I didn't check my bank statements, I would be driving round without any knowledge of DVLA having my van as scrapped.
I've sent them all photos off van, inside and out, VIN plates, V5C etc. They said it could be 6 weeks. I use it every day for work, so I said I can't take that time off. I'm now awaiting their next response. Nightmare.
By the way, I've checked the van, all VIN and chassis details match that on the V5C, so this is the right van.0
