NTL / Orchid use
My parents wish to use the 18185 service and I have just registered them; however their phone line is provided by NTL cable and the instructions for a non BT line are to dial an 11 digit number and await a voice prompt. Does this preclude the use of an Orchid dialer? Apart from getting the BT line re-instated is there any…

Ok I'm new to this, so bear with me if you've done this before. I have read lots on Martin's website about cheapest phone providers, but I've never seen mine on there and I think it's quite a good deal. If I'm wrong could someone put me right please? I use a homecall package this means I get unlimited highspeed broadband…

Talk Talk Contract
Hi first post to the forum so here goes ..! After reading the great tips on this site we switched to Talk Talk 3 International last month (with free broadband .. although it wasn't free for us it was £10 but that's still ok as it's miles cheaper than what we were paying for the BT service). I noticed recently that Talk…

ntl late payment charges
Hi ntl have just charged me £10 for late payment of my bill. (Oversight on my part - stupidly busy with work, thought I'd paid it). There has been much recent publicity about unlawful bank charges. Are these ntl charges also unlawful? If so, can I do anything about it or have they got me by the short and curlies? Has…

18185 - Sneaky connection charge increase?
I just got my invoice for 18185. There was a lot of calls lasting less than 5 seconds to mobiles; probably when its gone through to voicemail but they were all 9p. This added up to a couple of quid over a month for unused calls. I was going to email customer support but then I remembered they now charge by the minute. So,…

Broadband causing white noise! BT says tough!
Please can someone offer me advice as to how to stop BT charging me £55 everytime they come out to try to fix my phone line. And indeed how can I get them to repair the fault. For nearly a year now, following a crossed line with my neighbours phone, the volume on my broadband line has been very poor. There is no problem…

Hi folks, I have a question regarding what would be the best option for my parents to save money on their phonecalls. A bit of background - I myself have been using Heinz's standard method for the last few months now; BT line rental plus Primus,1899/18185 etc. (thank you Heinz!!:T :T ), so that's great for my…

Voipcheap
Whilst I totally agree with all that Martin has written and said about the merits of VOIP in recent months, he never seems to mention VoipCheap. It seems to me to be the cheapest and best VOIP option with a £10 + VAT charge every 90 days, balance carried over if you renew and unlimited free calls to many countries. You can…

Free PC to landline
Hello! This is my first post, as I have patently lurked for long enough. I came across the website of the Gizmo Project today, and if I am reading this correctly, aren't they saying that you can call PC to landline for free without any set-up charges etc...? There are obvious riders - to quote: 'Callers are encouraged to…
