Aol Talk

Hi..I dont know if I'm putting this in the right place but here goes.
I work from home where i have to make phone calls for work. I have to send itemized bill to employers to get my calls paid for. No problem with that but I use Aol Talk and my employer need a VAT invoice etc of call charges. Been onto AOL and been told that they do not supply them, only the basic break down of calls. Surely they should be able to supplt VAT invoice by law..any ideas anyone?.. Might have to go back to BT at this rate but basically i'm happy with AOL Talk...

With some phone companies you need to be on a business tariff, not a residential tariff, in order to get a VAT receipt
  • Thnx Stuart...Aol dont have business tariff tho I dont think, any idea how i can get round this?

As the firm's paying for those work calls, I don't suppose it matters who your provider is.

However, you could still save money on your non-work calls by using www.call1899.co.uk for your UK 01/02 calls and www.18185.co.uk for your 0845, 0870 and mobile calls.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • yep its ok when employer will pay anyway. Just annoying and now its going to take 2-3 weeks to change back to BT. Anyway, have registered with both those others, they sound good so thanks for that...:T

I thought that anyone who charges VAT is obliged to provide a VAT invoice on request. I had a similar problem with ntl. After a couple of phone calls to their customer (dis)service they agreed. Apparently they print "This is not a VAT invoice" on all residential lines to stop businesses taking advantage of their all inclusive call rates. On request they can change this to show their VAT number.

If you are being billed by a ompany that isn't charging you VAT, I don't see how your employer can require you to produce a VAT invoice.
