Hey,
I am new to this but...
I have just moved into my room (its a bit like student halls but not for students!) and theres a bt box in the room. So i called up BT to get it reconnected(there is no dial tone when a phone is plugged into the box...) After being on hold for about half an hour, i was told that they could not see the room no. on thier system so therefore it will be in the previous BT users name. I have given BT a list of names of previous tennants in the room but they have not recognised them. Then Bt said that if I found out the phone number they could do it that way! But there is no way of me finding that out!!!! Does anyone know if there is a way around it, as i really do not want to have to pay 150quid to get a new line fitted!!!

There is a special number you can dial when hooked upto it, that gives you a recorded voice that tells you the number and the service status for the line.
Only problem is I don't know the number, hopefully this comment will promt someone, somewhere......I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. However, madrabbit did say there was no dial tone when he plugged a phone in so that's not going to work.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
