Is There Any Way Of Knowing If You Have A Tap On Ur Phoneline?

Dont know if this would be counted as Techie stuff:confused:

Cant go into details, but is there any way you would know or find out if someone had taped into your phone line? What about bugging devices in or on your home?

Any replies welcome.

Thanks

    Google 'Counter-surveillance equipment'

    You ain't seen me, roight?

Joking aside, if you're getting funny noises on your line, give BT (or whoever your with) a ring. Unless you're a dodgy character any tapping is illegal. As for bugging devices, look at places you'd put them; fire detectors, clocks etc. I've been watching too many 'spooks' episodes.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me..........
  • Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • How effective is this kind of stuff? Have been told by a PI that some of the gadgets out there are crap:confused: ...is that true?

I sound like a mad woman, but I have reasons to be concerned.

I am going to contact the police and BT in the morning and ask for advice. To many dodgy things have happened recently to be coincidental IYSWIM.

If you trust the PI, he might be able to point you in the right direction? Unless you're an 'International Woman of Mystery', any bugging is likely to be low tech. Voice activated recorders shouldn't be too difficult to find..........
  • No...Im not an International Woman Of Mystery:rotfl:.....but I dont know how clued up this person is as theyve just done a long stretch inside. I dont know the PI so not sure of trustworthy etc. He said ots very difficult to find bugs etc in the home as many can be switched off when a room is sweeped:confused:

Check for puddles under the receiver. Drips are a dead giveaway

Its highly unlikely that your phone would be tapped by a criminal, it would have to be pretty hi tech if its a landline phone, howevr its pretty easy to scan a frequency if you are using a cordless phone or mobile phone, If you suspect your phone is tapped, contact your provider for a signal check, any weakening of the signal would indicate it. but not narrow it down to a particular source, alternatively, if your phone is suspected of being tapped, use a mobile phone instead, or send a txt, If you have internet, set up a phone with it, using it for calls that you would want discretion for.

If someone is to go to the trouble of tapping your landline phone, at expense, and time consuming, they got to be after you giving certain details away that they could use against you, such details your hardly likely to divulge in over a telephone.

If however, you find some form of evidence that this is happening, tell the police. Inform the phone company of a privacy breach. Dont live in fear and paranoia, use alternative measures if you have to, but I personally think its highly unlikely as what would be the goal, it be far easier for someone to gain information about you other than a phone tap.

    Hi Penny-Pincher,

I am moving it to the phones board as it seems more relevant. I hope this is ok.

  • Baby moneters.

We used to be able to pick up the people over the road in our old house - the moneter had two channels and when we switched over we got next-door-but-one. You could hear everything....baby cooing, them talking....made me very aware of how much we must have been 'broadcasting' to the neighbourhood.
