HMRC On account for savings interest
I wonder if someone can advise me. I am a PAYE employee. All my tax and NI are taken at source yet I complete a self assessment for my savings tax. I do not earn over 60k PAYE and my savings amount to approx 1.5k a year. I completed my self assessment this year and owed just on 500£ interest. I had 366 on account already…

Tax on savings. Do I need to self declare?
Apologies for this probably dumb question but I’ve not been in this position before and I can’t find an easy to understand answer. I had a lump sum of redundancy money which I put in an ISA a couple of years ago, however I didn’t want to put everything in there as I wanted easy access to some (I’m looking to buy a car), so…

Virgin Money interest rate drop - is this the beginning of saving rate drops??
I have just received an email telling me that my M Plus saver account interest rate is dropping down to 2.50% from the 3.55% It wasn't the best rates to begin with, but that is quite a drop. I wonder if the other institutions will also begin to drop the rates - might be time to lockup in a 1 or 2 year deal now.

Beehive Regular Saver - Unable To Close Account
I’ve just tried to close my Beehive Fixed Rate Regular Saver account, but was unable to do so, or withdraw any of my funds, as apparently the Ts and Cs do not allow this, so I am stuck with this account until the term ends. Obviously I was well aware that I wouldn’t get the interest as I was closing early, but - on a web…

Grandparent Saving for Grandchild
My mother in law set up a childrens savings account when my son was born (unknown to us) it was set up in her name showing my sons name as a ref. My son is now 21 and wants to access the money - the account changed to an everyday saver when he turned 18. I have contacted the bank to find out how to access the money and…

Why invest in NS&I Guaranteed Income Bonds over Guaranteed Growth Bonds?
Hi, Looking at the NS&I 1 Year guaranteed fixed bonds, why would anyone opt for Guaranteed Income Bonds over Guaranteed Growth Bonds when Guaranteed Income Bonds pay 3.90% gross/3.97% AER where as Guaranteed Growth Bonds pay 4.00% gross/AER? All aspects of the two bonds appear to be the same. Am I missing something?

How many accounts is too many?
Hi everyone I recently have received a fairly significant pay rise which coincides with paying off a few debts and loans. I will now have a good amount to add to savings monthly. I already put roughly £300 a month into Premium Bonds as well as £150 into my Nat West Digital Savings account (max for this account). I'm now…

Thematic ETF's - to invest or not to invest?
It's occurred to me that if your are solely trying to outperform one of the main indexes - global tracker or S&P500 tracker - why not just invest in a NASDAQ 100 ETF instead? Whilst we know past performance is not a guarantee of future gains etc, surely it's a more reliable option than say investing in a EV, cyber…

Monthly investment in S&S ISA for kids, what to invest in
AIUI, from the new tax-year I can open and contribute to multiple S&S ISAs in the same tax year. We want to open an ISA (in our names, not JISAs) for each of our two kids, and make an unchanging monthly payment into it from now until they turn 18. If everything works as planned, each account will have £XX when the child is…

Telling HMRC about Dividend Income
Thanks to the £1000 limit for 2023-2034 dividend income I'm going to be over it. I'm PAYE and still a basic rate taxpayer just about and I don't complete a self-assessment as I don't need to. The dividend income was £1700 or so. From what I can work out I need to login on the HMRC tax portal and use the "Add missing…
