Am I right in thinking if I buy City of London before 25 Jan (ex-div date), I will receive the current dividend on 29/2...?
I appreciate the price will go down by dividend amount, I want to specifically generate income....

Yes, and it is before the ex-dividend date, not "before or on". If you buy on 25 Jan itself, you won't get the dividend.0

If you wish to generate a higher income going forward. Buy ex-div. Remember you'll also pay stamp duty of 0.5% on the value of the share purchase.1
