Hi, My dad bought some shares in my name many decades ago. He originally had them as paper certificates, then a couple of different online portals, and now in Fidelity. He has passed them over to me to take control. I want to sell them and get the funds into my ISA (possibly re-buy the same shares again if i think they…

How to tell if a fund is registered for UK tax reporting?
I am trying to understand if the Invesco FTSE All-World UCITS ETF ACC fund has UK Reporting Fund status, as I read that UK individuals pay up to 45% on their investment gains if an offshore fund does not have status, compared to 20% if it does. I've downloaded the document, from the government website (link below), but if…

To delete or not to delete, that is the question....
I have a love hate relationship with my finance apps. I'm sure these are rookie numbers compared to most but I have (counting them now...) 14 (!!!) banking/finance apps. Most I check daily while others a weekly glance like my vyoung daughters isas/sipps. I like to think I'm a "set it and forget it" type of investor, I…

Dividend taxation
I'm going through my admin for the current financial year to keep up to date for next year's self assessment and am ok with most things, but wanted to check something hopefully quite simple that's confusing me - the Glencore and Coca Cola dividends are listed as 'tax exempted' separately at the bottom of my T212…

Why sudden drop in short term gilt fund IGLS on 16 Jan?
I am curious about why there was a sudden 1-day drop - just under 2% - in the price of IGLS (ishares Uk gilts 0-5yr UCITS ETF GBP) on 16 January. This is a short term gilt fund and normally not volatile, and I didnt notice other bond funds being affected. Any ideas?

Aviva pension terminal bonus
I have held my pension for 40 yrs and am now looking at cashing it in. However the terminal bonus has been reduced significantly every year for the last 5 years despite reasonable market conditions resulting in an overall return less than had I put it in a savings account. Can anyone explain the rationale? I have contacted…

Trading 212 credentials
Hi, Just opened a new Trading 212 cash ISA (5.2%) and have found it really difficult to get it accepted by my chosen bank account to feed funds into the ISA. The bank in question is Natwest and they just don't recognise either "Trading 212 UK Limited or "JPMorgan Chase Bank" in their "add a business to pay" field, Natwest…

Cambridge Money App
New update out, basically seems the same as the new look Saffron money app with the account transactions showing when you load the app up & you just switch between accounts (if you have more than 1) Although I like the idea of the new look, both the Saffron app & this app seem to take longer to load up than they used to,…

Savings account for 16 year old
My son, who has just turned 16, wants to start saving. It looks as though he needs to wait until he is 18 before opening an ISA. What would his best option be? Thanks.

Savings and Tax allowances
I've just seen a recent post by Martin on Twitter, where he outlines tax allowances and how much we are allowed to earn in interest before paying tax. Now, I was always aware of the normal personal tax allowance (currently £12,570) and the personal savings allowance for 20% tax payers (£1,000). However, I wasn't aware of…

Betting against "AI".
I started a new job 40 years ago this month. It was an artificial intelligence research centre, part of what was then the Polytechnic of the South Bank in London. I note know the huge enthusiasm about how AI is about to change our lives, and revolutionise valuations. I am quite the skeptic: I'm not convinced that the…

Are ISAs better for low or higher rate taxpayers?
We are a married couple with approx. £30k we want to put into ISAs until we're ready to do home renovations. I work part-time and earn below the tax threshold so I'm a non-taxpayer. My spouse is a higher rate tax payer. Should we put the majority of the money into an ISA in my name or my spouse's name? Or should we just…

Buying Bitcoin
Not looking for any advice on whether it's a good idea or not thanks ... I want to buy a significant amount of Bitcoin, say tens of thousands. It's not easy! My main bank, First Direct, has limits (supposedly £2,500 in any one transaction and £10,000 in any 30-day period); and I read that Chase, where I also have an…

Proceeds from house sale
I'm just completing on the sale of a house. I am moving into the other house I own which I have been renting out, this house has £140000 mortgage on it. I will clear 240000 on the sale. This might be a stupid question but should I pay the mortgage off? Or would the interest I'd get off set the mortgage. Either way any…
