Private Equity

Hello -

Does anyone on here (who doesn't own their own private jet) have an allocation to any private equity? I've been considering a small allocation over the last few weeks and months but am yet to make a move, mostly because the options of doing so are quite thin.

If there are - why did you introduce it into your portfolio and what do you own?

That condition might reduce the number of replies significantly :)

And here's me thinking I'm in the minority on here not owning one yet. ;)

What I meant was retail investors who added it to their portfolio. To be blunt, I'm not interested in hearing from someone who's got £50m and their private equity allocation is 10% of that.
  • I have small positions in PIN (Pantheon International) and the passive tracker IPRV (and a bit in the VC firm GROW - Drapier Espirit).

Hold private equity for diversification. First bought ICG Enterprise Trust when it first launched in 1981.  Also held used to hold private equity indirectly when holding F&C Investment Trust.

PEY (Princess Private Equity) , a PE IT, is about 7% of my income portfolio.  It has produced a steady dividend, current yield 4.5%, and has doubled in value with dividends reinvested over the past 5 years.

I hold a small amount of Merian Chrysalis, which is much newer than some of the other private equity trusts. Its pretty tech and fintech focused with names like Starling Bank and Transferwise

SMT holds unquoted positions. Private equity isn't restricted to specific vehicles.

Yep, I was going to mention SMT as well.
  • I have about 5% in HVPE. Anything in private equity must be regarded as a long term hold - 15 to 20 years.

I use Oakley as part of diversification of my overall portfolio. It has served me well and I have seen , off the top of my head, something over a 100% gain in the past 9 or 10 years.
