Investec
I have had a 12 months bond with these guys through my Hargreaves Lansdowne active savings and they have been fine. I just noticed that they are giving 4.5% pa if you open a 12 months bond with them directly versus 4.16% pa via HL. Anyone had any savings with Investec UK directly and can comment on how it went? Were they…

Tesco Internet Saver & HRMC Interest Reporting
Opened a Tesco Internet saver account on 15/4/24, this had an interest guarantee Bonus rate for 12 month of 3.56%, plus a variable rate 1.25%. At the end of the 24-25 year Tesco (Barclays Bank) seem to have only just reported interest at 1.25%. to HRMC. The Fixed Rate 3.56% interest was paid when the account was rolled…

Have you received Cynergy's notification of rate reductions
Cynergy have recently advised some savers that they are reducing the rates on issues 68 and 69 of their easy access accounts. Although some have received this email, others (myself and Mum included) have not. I have not seen a poll on this forum before so thought I'd give it a go.As Cynergy only have to notify you if the…

Best bonds' fund for nearing retirement
Following on from a previous question, can anyone recommend the best fund for bonds please? Ideally available to purchase as part of my SIPP through Halifax Share Dealing. I did read about a study (Beyond the Staus Quo: A Critical Assessment of Lifecycle Investment Advice) that recommended 100% equities (33% US, 67% intl.)…

What to do with £35k
Asking for a family member A family member has £35k for investment that they would like to maximise the value of, and they've asked me to ask the hive mind. Age 46 ISA allowance is fully used for this year. Money not expected to be needed for a decade or more. They have a very healthy emergency fund. Do they invest in a…

Savings tax interest - confused!
Hi all, I’ve had a letter from HMRC today letting me know I didn’t pay enough tax in the last financial year due to earning interest on savings. Happy to pay it but am struggling to understand their calculation and hoping someone here is more clever than me and can understand it! I am a higher rate tax payer, earned £1066…

On going FA charge (sorry)
I have a small pot of £360k with Prudential that I cashed in 2022. The Pru appointed an FA and he set up a Prufund RM3 and Prufund Planet RM3. It just sits there and I have an annual review that takes about 30 minutes and its the only time he interacts with me. The Pru pay him monthly out of my fund. He has dropped his on…

Would this strategy of 100% equities work?
What if I had 100% equities (in index funds) and a cash buffer to pull from for the average bear market of approx. 22 months of living expenses. Plus, say, 22 x £1,000 to buy the dip?I think I'm getting close to retirement and I am mostly I equities with hardly any bonds which I'm told is ill-advised.

Portfolio Risk Measurement
I have finalized my asset line up for next year so now my attention has turned to ways to
measure my portfolio for risk. A number of posters recently have mentioned a
desire to reduce risk but none of them have attempted to quantify what risk
levels currently exist in their portfolio’s. Simply, if you can’t quantify…

CSH2 query
I bought some CSH2 on Friday (Lyxor Smart Overnight Return Money market fund). I looked at the portal yesterday and saw that I had made a small loss. And indeed, in Mon 24th the fund did close lower than it opened (see below). My "buy" price on 21st Feb was 117,087. I'm not too bothered but am just interested, for my…

Some advise about investing small amount please
I am considering investing, though never done so before. As have been quite risk averse. However wish to try to increase my pension pot and have more options for the future. Therefore would appreciate some advise, as I am unsure if a S&S ISA is suggested over investing directly into the market and with my budget I can only…

My experience with Charles Stanley Direct - AVOID!
Long time lurker but infrequent poster. I want to let people know of my experience with Charles Stanley Direct (CSD). I was tempted by their cash back offer, but never again! I attempted to transfer a SIPP to CSD. My initial transfer request was made on 31

Tax code change mid-year
I opened a new savings account that paid £78 interest in October (acct opened last week of Oct) and £278 in November. Today I had an HMRC coding notice saying I have untaxed interest of £33. I thought banks told HMRC interest at the end of the tax year? Have they estimated the tax for the rest of the year or will they…

Buy and Sell
Is it possible in theory to buy and sell a stock every day? There are stocks that are volatile and go up and down daily. Would it be possible to buy the stock at a low, then sell it when it goes up by for example 2%. Then sell it for the 2% gain and buy it once it goes down and repeat? That way you could make a 2% gain on…

Scottish Widows Investing ?
Total newbie to investing here … I have a Scottish Widows Pension and noticed you can also have an investment account with them. I fancy having a go ! Maybe start with 500 quid to see how it goes with perhaps a coupe of K to ultimately play with. If it goes well maybe invest a bit more. They appear to have packages already…
