Coventry BS - Login authentication not working.

After entering username and password, the system tries to send a passcode for 2FA.
At this point I get an error message: "Page Not Available. We're sorry we haven't been able to load this page."
I use Firefox on a Win 10 PC.
I have tried three times now.
Anyone else seeing this?

It works if I use MS Edge but not if I use Firefox.
Firefox has the uBlock Origin ad blocker installed but that is disabled.

The enhanced tracking protection issue is not new. Was previously raised last year: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/81018519/#Comment_81018519

I have the same issue intermittently in Chrome. Works either by using another browser (Edge) or fiddling about with AdBlock extensions to let them enable cookies.
  • The issue with Firefox not accepted by Coventry BS isn't new. I had this problem 9 months ago.

Following my recent complaint to Coventry their response was:

1.The system optimised for Edge and Chrome and Safari and recommend only these are used to log in to your savings accounts.

    2. To quote Coventry "they don't support Firefox as unable to guarantee compatibility"

3.They have no plans to change recommended browsers and Firefox users may continue to experience issues.

I did suggest they put a message on the Coventry website home page to this effect.  Don't suppose it will happen.

Not sure if it is something Coventry have done, or if it was a Firefox update, but I've just discovered (by accident) that I can log in to the Coventry site using Firefox in a private browsing session with enhanced tracking protection set to 'Strict'.  The previous issue with not getting the SMS code didn't happen, everything worked just as it should.

I didn't do any of the previously suggested workarounds for Firefox, instead I'd just used Chrome instead if I needed to get onto the Coventry site.  The 'accident' was that I opened Firefox instead of Chrome and logged in normally... then wondered why Chrome looked different today.

So this wasn't that I've got the Coventry site to work with Firefox by doing something clever, it just worked.  (but for how long?)

Firefox works fine with Coventry, all you have to do is:- enter your email when you sign in, enable the spyware popups being blocked by noscript, then refresh page, then enter your pass, voila.

However, I withdrew all my money from Coventry, because despite being provided with a Matrix Card, and Telephone password, they decided they wouldn't bother using those anymore, as they now use voice ID.

Unfortunately, I had previously declined this method (as its worthless), which meant there was NO security on my account whatsoever.

Well played Coventry. My money is now in another bank on a higher interest rate.

My mum has had accounts with Coventry for ages, and for a long time we didn't contact them because of the login procedure involving the matrix card. I can't remember if the matrix card option didn't work or mum coudn't find the matrix card. There was further confusion as my dad had accounts with Coventry and he had a matrix card and sometimes the 2 got mixed up.

When Coventry allowed us to use username and login, accessing Coventry is so much easier. As well as username and login, Coventry calls mum's home number and we have enter a code into the phone that is displayed on the computer screen. All quite simple and smooth.

But I have advised mum to move money out of Coventry as there are quite a few institutions paying better rates of interest. So we have started that process.

  • I see, perhaps then after I withdrew my £25 million, they realised their faux pas, and implemented the system you describe. Well played.
