Trade121 messing about with my address

Was at end of ISA transfer, about to sign, then saw they'd used an incomplete and nonsensically incorrect address, i.e. one whole line missing, after ignoring my original input.   Queried the omission, but they then asked when my address became incorrect and if I'd send copy bank statement to verify.  Odd, as they weren't interested in any verification statement when they wanted to use THEIR version of my address! that would have rendered my details as being for any one of a number of flats.  Needless to say, have said I'm disappointed with the lack of care with my details and gone elsewhere. Shame, as up until then, the staff were very helpful with other bits. Notice a lot of websites insist you put the street name ahead of any other part of your address these days, so I now avoid them like the plague.

If you were on the website of Trade121 (a Forex trading platform) trying to transfer an ISA to them then you had a lucky escape.

Ironic that you post about a company mangling your address when you've mangled their name.
  • I raised similar query elsewhere, and was told the Post Office Address files only use housenumber/name & post code with all else being redundant; I remain unconvinced.
    - there are apparently also other databases for 'address files' used by institutions & online shops to match a customer's address, which are also routinely allowing only shortened versions of address.
We haven't been able to put our county name for ages. I get laughed at for being old-fashioned of course.

In my case my village was being automatically deleted from what I'd input, which makes a difference when the same street name appears in the main postal town and in several villages locally. Royal Mail might cope with only the postcode, but that doesn't extend to van-driving couriers.

What we call 'incomplete' addresses is a security issue as far as I'm concerned, when it comes to cards, PINs, statements. Walking away and withdrawing your custom does seem the only solution for the time being, as nobody listens.

The good folk who live on High Street, London (there are more than 50 of them) seem to cope.

For the avoidance of doubt, an ISA transfer does not involve any postal communication with the ISA holder. It is handled by the two ISA managers. In the case of T212, this will be fully electronic. It certainly won't involve anything being delivered by courier.
If your address varies from that recorded in the postcode database, then it would be reasonable to verify it before overriding this.

I really hope you just mistyped Trading 212, because this "Trade 121" site is an absolute scam. No FCA disclaimer to be seen, riddled with spelling mistakes, customer support only available from 9 to 5 - loads of red flags.

Not Odd at all.    It's normal when there is an address inconsistency when evidence is requested.   The Post office database does contain inconsistencies.  The Experian, Dow Jones, and Equifax databases are also others that have inconsistencies.   Sometimes because people mangle their own address into something else (an unregistered house name, historical addresses before a site was broken up - e.g. an ex farm or post code or boundary changes).
