my colleague was deeply involved with this on facebook and hoping to get a loan, he was will to fly to meet them. I am not allowed to post the link, but if you go to facebook and type in the search

Financial Investor and Loan Provider

it comes up under "pages"

They sent him a video of a consignment of cash that had just arrived, I noticed that the first two notes on one of the stacks of money had identical serial numbers to the first two notes on the other stack of money, suggesting that it was fake money

Surely this is a scam, any thoughts on how it would work?

Adverts on Facebook are probably the worst resource anyone could use for financial products

I ignore averts on social media, especially  where anything to do with money is concerned.
My be you should have that person read this:

How many alarm bells are needed for this person to realise it is a scam?

It depends. We are in a small town where a lot of people know each other, or know somebody who does. A lot of stuff is sold on Facebook with very few problems. We helped an elderly acquaintance get a very modestly priced second-hand TV when they insisted they didn't want a smart TV.

A friend of theirs in a city was excited by how cheaply this person got a decent TV and tried to do the same. What they found was an absolute jungle of scammers and broken products, at much higher prices.

So very much situational, but works well here.
