Transferring ISAs to Virgin Money

I opened a fixed rate ISA with Virgin and want to transfer other ISAs to it, one from Santander and another Virgin one. Because the other Virgin one has a different sort code to my new one apparently I have to fill in a paper form and post it  the same with the Santander. I find it incredible these days I can't do these transfers online, is this a Virgin thing or the same for all banks?

I'm surprised to hear that a paper form is required to do either of those transfers, especially the internal one.

As you can see from this list, Santander use the BACs ISA transfer service so transfers to another ISA provider who also uses the service (like Virgin) shouldn't require the use of paper forms. I've transferred away from Santander electronically in the past, so this must be a Virgin quirk.

Should be able to transfer electronically
  • I transferred into a Virgin one a few years ago and had to fill paper form in in branch 🤷‍♂️

My Santander FRISA which matured 1/5 arrived in my VM FRISA EXCL 11 2/5. Transfer application was done electronically early April & acknowledged by both VM & Santander within a couple of days.

It was over a year ago but we both opened Virgin "exclusive" ISAs and the transfer in from Paragon was done electronically as part of the account opening process. From what I recall you could only do one transfer this way. A second transfer, or one done after the account was opened, had to be on paper.
  • I opened a virgin isa recently and I was able to complete a switch electronically at the time of account opening, including one from virgin. However, it appeared that if I didn’t request the switch electronically at the time of account opening, then I would have needed to fill in a paper form and post it off.

Presumably that transfer was part of the VM application? If not how did you do it? The dreaded paper seems to come into play if you don't transfer as part of the application.

No. I opened the FRISA 11 on 23 March but didn’t request the xfer of maturing Santander FRISA until 4 April. IIRC, I used link in an email from VM to initiate xfer.
I’ve used VM’s paper xfer process at least 3 times in the past. Once it didn’t go smoothly was partly my own fault.

Was the transfer your first deposit into the FRISA though?

I opened FRISA 23 March, unfunded.

4 April, approx 4 weeks before San ISA maturity, I requested xfer online.

9 April I withdrew £10k from VM flexible ISA & via VM current account, paid it into new FRISA. So that £10k was in FRISA 4 weeks before the xfer in. But xfer was initiated 1st.
