Ongoing subsidence issue
Hi Any advice would be much appreciated. 9 years ago we had subsidence on the extension of our house. We had injection by GeoBear but this did not work and the house has been monitored since 2023 and is still moving. We have a large oak tree at the end of our front garden and the insurance company now want to apply to…

'Care' Shower with double outlet
Looking for advice from any plumbers / shower experts. We are installing a wet room for our disabled daughter and have received some funds via DFG. They have a set of guidelines for the specification of some of the wet room equipment. The shower specification is: Shower: new shower should be BEAB-care approved…

Boiler showing heat demand; could a leak in the pipes cause this?
Vaillant Ecotec Sustain boiler; half a year ago had its heat exchanger replaced by British Gas cover. Last 2 weeks I see the boiler firing up to heat water as if the taps are running, and then switching off after 10 seconds, and then coming back on after a minute for another 10 seconds etc. Had BG come and check it, the…

15 months later after work done...
Hi. New on here 👋. We had a big project in our home. It is the first time we have done any major changes so not sure what I should expect over time. I understand that there is movement in a house overtime 1. Cracking and crumbling in bathroom grout in one place (everywhere else is fine). Bit surprised by this. 2. Gaps,…

Damp in boiler cupboard
We've lived here just over a year and never had damp until this turned up in the boiler cupboard. The kitchen wall is on ine side and the chimney breast on the other. We had the chimney removed before christmas - could that be causing the damp?

How to fix this?
The handle has come away from my trusty sharpening steel as can been seen below. It's from a decent Henckels knife set and I've had for years and was hoping for some advice as to the type of adhesive to use to fix it back on. Any ideas?

Fence Ownership (yes I know It's a tricky one)
My neighbour is demanding I replace the dilapidated fence between our properties (on our right hand side). When we moved in, she told us that our house was built on land that was originally part of her property (she didn't own it at that stage) and that there was a neighbours agreement that the fence would be maintained by…

Electric pole lease removal-one off pay out
I was wondering if anyone has any exposure to this or. Knowledge? Not sure if I am posting in the correct board, so please also shout if this is the case. We have 2 electricity poles on our garden/land. We have heard that rather than receiving a nominal amount every 3 years you can ask for a one off payment where you hand…

Water Ingress?
Hey everyone, Went to see my Mum (and Dad) yesterday (as I'm sure millions of others did too!) and she asked me to have a look at a couple of walls in her house with marks on. It was worse than I had thought, so I did some investigation myself, and asked Gemini. I'm just hoping to get some actual real human input and…

Neighbour refusing to pay for damp repair
Hi everyone! I hope this post is in the right category. Just over a year ago, my mum sold the family home and bought a flat. I (a disabled adult) now live here and she lives here too, but often stays with her partner. The whole flat was treated for damp and decorated. There is a dehumidifier machine on all the time,…

Shower screen
I noticed a very small drip on the edge of the door when the water hits the door. It drips into the basin not outside it how big an issue is it? I am going to resilcone it at some point. Most of the Google AI answers seem to suggest it leaks outside but it doesn’t

Redo Fitted Wardrobe
Hey everyone, I've been tasked with re-doing my daughters fitted wardrobes. Essentially the doors (non standard size) feel really flimsy and cheap, as do the drawers etc. This is it now: And with a bit of Gemini fakery, this is sort of what we're aiming for, but doors going up to coving - not that wasted gap! This far I…

How good are aluminium radiators vs steel ones?
Hi, We’re replacing our living room radiator with a vertical one and our plumber has sent a few options. One is a steel radiator (~5700 BTU) and another is aluminium (~8000 BTU). Our room only needs around 5600–5700 BTU, so both would technically be enough. The rest of the radiators in the house are original steel ones…
