Cost of shower regrout in London

Hello

I need to get someone to regrout my shower about 4m2. The job includes removal of old grout and applying new one.

I live in East London zone 4.

I struggle to find anyone who wants to do it, I got only one quote £250. As I have no others, does it seem reasonable? I never needed this type of job before so not sure if this is reasonable or I am being taken for a ride.

As I mentioned I struggle to find anyone who wants to do it. Do I approach wrong tradesmen? Should I look for a handyman rather than tilers?

It's a small job, and its potentially fiddly and time consuming. A handyman may be a better bet, but £250 for London may not be far off. Checkatrade reckons £160 average for a shower.

What is wrong with the shower grout at the moment?

Will a good clean of the grout do?

    Photos may help us.

I have used grout whitener on my toilet room tiles and it made a huge difference.

It is cracked in multiple places causing small leaks including visible mould in few places. I tried to find matching grout but couldn't so in the end need the whole shower regrout rather than few bottom layers.

You need a general handyman rather than a tiler who would command a higher rate of pay

£250 does seem okay for what is a fiddly job and might take up the best part of a day. Have you any other jobs that need doing that might make it more attractive?

£250 doesn't sound too much for London. It took me the best part of a day definitely and that was just scouring out the bad bits then adding grout all over. This was a small cubicle.

How big is the shower? Some are huge.

Not difficult but begins to drive you nuts after a while.

It is fairly small 1200x800. As far as I can see it will be less than 2kg of grout based on some online calculators.

A multitool with a carbide blade would probably reduce the amount of fiddling depending on the joint widths. But you do need to be careful not to chip the glaze on the tiles.

There are also accessories for Dremel tools, but I don't think I could recommend using one - Perhaps with a diamond cutting wheel, but the width of cut is going to be way too narrow. And again, you need to be very careful not to nick the glaze.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Not what your after but have you considered shower wall panels?

I think that's the name but as you said some of the tiles/grout are causing leaks have checked them to see if they are loose as water may have gotten behind them.

A family member had an old tiled shower and used panels over the tiles( don't know if that's ok) and it looked like a brand new shower cubicle.
