Shower waste top won't come off ...

Here's a picture of our shower waste, which is a "90mm Chrome High Flow Shower Waste" from Victorian Plumbing.

Before it was fitted, I had a look at it out the box and I'm sure that the chromed top came off easily: a bit like taking a bayonet-fitting lightbulb out. Now it's been installed a few weeks, and if I try that again, all I can do is twist it maybe 20 degrees one way or the other until it hits a stop. There's no resistance to turning, so I'm sure it's not threaded. It won't move either up or down, and we want to clean the filter out.

The chap who installed it is currently on holiday somewhere out East, and I've been advised not to waste my time asking the supplier, so … anybody been here themselves and managed to get it off?

A quick google suggests it should just lift up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIMRvox2O50).

Mine is a slightly different design on top but it also just lifts out.

Our shower wastes both look the same as this. They both just pull straight out, like a cork from a bottle. There's no bayonet fastening with ours, just a rubber seal that fits fairly tightly into the tubular waste housing.

The Q&A on the VP item says "To clean, turn the chrome cover anti-clockwise and then pull out. You will then see the white plastic waste 'cup'. Simply pull this out and clean it, along with the chrome cover. Once clean, push both parts back into place."

OK … problem solved. In case anybody else hits the same snag with this particular waste, it does indeed come apart as quoted by Sherlock33 above.

However, in my case, it took far more pull than expected, almost to the point where I was sure the chromed top was going to snap. But it didn't: it released suddenly. And examination has shown that the likely cause of it sticking was hard (brick?) dust stuck to the rubber O-ring causing it to jam. That, and the builder making damned sure it was in all the way 🙄

Off now to make sure it's perfectly clean, then smear some silicone grease on the O-ring before putting it back together.

I have a similar issue with my toilet seat, everything I read tells me to just pull it upwards to remove but it just wont shift without feeling like its going to break off!
