Window fitter not upholding Ten years guarantee
Hi, I'm in a new build house. Moved in 2020. Last week one of the windows went 🎉 scared the life out of me. Now the glass is all shattered but still in place.
Phoned Munster Joinery who fitted the windows as still in the 10 year guarantee. Was told its not covered by the guarantee as they don't cover the gas. The paperwork i have says nothing about gas at all.
Anybody had a similar issue? And any advice on what my next steps should be?
Thanks

can you post a scan of the paperwork ?
Certainly the guarantee stated on their website excludes cracked, shattered or broken glass units but it does cover if condensation is between the pains on unbroken units

What gas? Glass maybe?

Possibly inert gas filling the inside of the sealed unit? Maybe there's a (mis)understanding the 'gas' has expanded in the heat and caused the glass to fracture?
Either way I'd be amazed if anyone genuinely guaranteed sealed units against breakage/cracking for 10 years. How would they be able to refuse a claim for damage caused by something out of their control, like impact or thermal shock?

OP- The good news is that replacing the glass sealed unit is relatively easy and not very expensive. In case you end up having to pay for it yourself.

Unless it's toughened glass and large as OP said shattered and to me that's toughened glass.
OP may as well go ahead and order the unit themselves or get a glazier in to price up.
I am only aware of 5 years guarantee on glass units but others may not longer.

Phoned Munster Joinery who fitted the windows
Munster Joinery ( based in Ireland) will also have manufactured the window frames, but will have bought in the glass sealed units. Their Trust Pilot scores are about 50% one star. Nearly all of these are the owners of new builds complaining about poor quality.
I know we should not really trust Trust Pilot, but there is a certain consistency in the complaints.

When it happened to me, the reputable installer said it would be 'inclusions ' in the glass and not covered by guarantee. See
Nickel Sulphide Inclusions in Toughened Glass

I had a triple glazed bi-fold unit replaced recently for under £400. I wouldn't expect the glass units to be covered for 10 years.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
I have posted this link before for a user who had a similar issue as OP.
It will give you an idea of prices for a replacement unit.
