Window restrainers
My main bedroom gets the rising sun so very hot in the morning.
Thinking of trying the tiny bedroom during heatwaves which is shaded and cooler but having the window open is a problem. You can easily get into it from standing.
Had a quick look at window restraints. The wire ones no. Too easy to cut. I see they do self adhesive ones. By the time anyone fiddled with those, plus the nets, vertical blinds, curtains I'd be on them plus no one would know they were adhesive but assume they were fixed.
Can anyone recommend what I should look at please?
I live in a cul-de-sac overlooked by lots of windows, in 27yrs there has only been one problem with a very drunk climbing over neighbours fence. No passers-by. No quick exit, so far, crime free.
Moving the bench would make no difference to access.

I don’t think there is such a thing as a window “restrainer” that’s also secure. They all make the window vulnerable.
If your windows have a catch position such that you can lock them whilst they’re partially open then that’s likely the best you can do.
The only window restrictors I’ve used are these from Screwfix https://www.screwfix.com/p/mila-window-restrictor-brushed-stainless-steel-100mm/6294P?gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=870266814&gbraid=0AAAAAD8IdPwGcdG6EJwTCLl5eTa7eev--&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIspTOuvudlgMVxJhQBh1g9gmCEAQYAyABEgJyOPD_BwE to stop a cat climbing out of an upstairs window. They’re good but not secure.

What about just using the smaller top hung window? Would need to lock the side window to prevent someone reaching through and opening it, but might be sufficient.

I think that locks it closed doesn't it Bjorn?
Yes, the small top one perhaps. I do have a freestanding PIR alarm from years ago. There shouldn't be anything to set it off at that height. Famous last words 🙂

No. There should be a small 1 inch gap depending on what espag lock is used.
Window restrictors are ok but they can be unlocked/released from the outside.

You could fix these if you feel confident attaching them to the sash and frame.

The cable ones I think are too easy to quickly snip with wire cutters.
The others look sturdy but are pretty ugly and will also permanently prevent opening the window wide when there's a cool breeze during the day.
But thanks for the options. It helps with thinking around the problem.

The one I linked to earlier can be lifted to fully open the window but it’s not secure because someone could do that by slipping something in at the side of the window.
If your window mechanism has something like this
then it can be opened a little to allow ventilation and then locked, but I doubt that’s giving you as much ventilation as you need.

It does look as though it gives more than the inbuilt window locking system does - which is next to nothing - so that's worth looking into some more. It also wouldn't be obviously open from the street.
Yes, ideally I'd like the big one fully open but that was when I had a house 🙂. So as long as there is something.
Thanks folks, it's very much something that it's tricky to search for when you've never seen them and don't know what to search for so the ideas are welcome.
When I stayed In Oz we had grids and fly screens. But that's expensive over here.

Bear in mind that window is a fire exit, restricting it might not be a good idea.

How do you know that from the photo?
Depending on when the windows were installed not all windows needed to be fitted with a fire escape hinge.
Unless you're on about any window that can be used to escape a fire.
