Thanks for the thought. I have the fire escape thing covered.

My friend stayed over and commented how very security and fire conscious I was.

Comes from a) watching a neighbours place burn down one night b) living opposite to a family of burglars for twenty years so good for advice anyone wants 🙂

Our main bedroom also gets the rising sun, but with the windows open all night and the curtains closed, I do not find it a big issue on most normal Summer mornings, unless you get up late.

In this current heatwave, it is still OK until about 08.30, and I live in a hotspot. Maybe I am just getting used to it.

Lucky Abermale! It's been the same since before the heatwaves and the heat comes through the only small window in a bay I can have open . Can be 28+ in the early hours.

I grew a tree in front but the heatwaves have dried the leaves. 4mts with one day of rain.

Glass porch attached to the other side of bay doesn't help.

But the small room tucked back and shaded is cooler. Just more vulnerable

Probably the difference is that we can open the windows wide, and have all the rooms on the same floor ( first) also wide open in the night.

until recently I worked as maintenance in a care home, the window restrictors I used were fitted to older wooden windows and were screwed into the frames, these had a key that could unlock one part so the window could be opened ( although it was only the small top part) , I think I could get them from Screwfix, but it would mean screwing them to the plastic frames, which I guess is not ideal, are you thinking of leaving the window open when you are out?, which is something I wouldn’t do for security reasons,

The chain looks easy but could be cut.

Though I don't think that I'm a logical target. But I had someone break into my last house two nights in a row for £7 of 5p and half a bottle of Tesco whisky!

So having seen more options than I could find (thanks again) it's made me think and the metal block would be the most secure. Less opening but they won't be cutting or breaking that without a lot of trouble. Too long and they'll go elsewhere.

Albermarl I miss an open window at night. I choose this place for sunshine all round and wide open skies. Times change. Didn't expect that 🙄

Some people might think it's a crack house and you could have sorts of undesirables if these were fitted.

Good idea though but don't think OP wants to spend that much

I've also considered fly screen. I could make a simple one to fit in the window - not great for proper ones in the UK but there are magnetic for anyone who wants ready made.

I know they could be cut but that's unlikely.

Shutters would be great for ventilation and keeping out the cold but too expensive.
