Where to put £150,000 for 6-8 weeks
I'm expecting a lump sum death benefit pension payment and I'm going to use it to pay off my mortgage. Any thoughts on what to do with the money between receiving it in my bank account and the date I can pay off my mortgage?

HMRC interest paid query
I like to think I keep very good records of interest that I'm paid, and I've received a notification from HMRC that they think I received about £300 more in interest in 2024/25 than my own records show, and they've updated my tax code accordingly. It's possible that I may be wrong, but I'd like to know, before I spend an…

Trading212 dd not honour the £30
Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone else has had issues with receiving the £30 - after signing up through Martin's promo offer link, trading212.com/join/MSE30. I contacted their support who said that there was no record of the promo code, and that it had exceeding the period since signing up and refused it. All the best

Personal and savings tax allowance questions
Having just retired I'm in new territory so would appreciate some advice on what are probably pretty basic questions, before I bother my very busy accountant... This coming new tax year, and for the foreseeable future years, I anticipate being able to access savings interest of approx £40k per annum; I also receive full…

Notice Accounts
I can't see any dedicated thread for Notice Accounts, so here we go. My question for all knowledgeable people in this forum is whether anyone has any experience with Allica Bank, I currently have a Zopa smart saver account and, so far, can't fault them really, but Allica are offering 2% for 95 days notice compared to…

Where to park my money
I am looking to minimise my tax on my savings interests and investments. To minimise CGT, I am planning only to sell when I can move my investment into S&S ISA. In terms of ISA allowance, for April 2026, I am planning to use money from my savings account to invest into a S&S ISA. For April 2027 ISA allowance, the options I…

Interest on fixed rated bonds
I’ve just had issues with Nationwide and their handling of tax on my 3 year FRB. They credit the bond annually with the interest for that year, and tell HMRC that i have received this. However i can only access the money on maturity. I have put down the entire 3 year interest payments this tax year, and didn’t realise that…

ISA yearly allowance
EDIT - Has now contacted share dealer. EDIT - Finally believed £20 limit, reversed 2nd ISA. As I read it, you have a £20,000 allowance to put into any combination of different types of ISAs. My partner put £20,000 into a cash ISA earlier this year and has today opened a Shares ISA "using" (maybe, I know nothing of shares.)…

Help to save regular payment not showing in help to save account
I set up a regular payment (standing order) to leave my bank account. I copied the account number, sort code and reference exactly as it was. It needed a 'name', so I saw people on here had just named it something like HTS so I did and it came up 'it's a match' on my banking app. Anyway, the money has left my bank account,…

Savings Account for someone in a care home
Hi, My Mum is in a care home suffering from vasculal dementia and my brother and I have recently sold her house. The money from the house sale is sitting in Mum's Virgin Money current account. General Discussion and Whimsical Banter
It was only a matter of time. Personally I've never minded the off-topic comments in the main threads to discuss top easy access and regular savings accounts, but I can see it's becoming a greater problem given that there just isn't a whole lot going on in the top end of the savings accounts market right now and possibly…
