3-6 Month Emergency Fund Challenge!!

I hope everyone is OK and has had the time to enjoy the sunshine while we had it. Heavy rain threatened here at the weekend:( so I won't be able to do a car boot sale and raise any much needed money.
I hope life is treating you a lot better now, Helen:kisses3:
I've finally had a tot up of money ins and outs and can scrape together £207. This is from a refund from the opticians for exchanging bifocals for much cheaper single-vision specs; £63 cashback which came payable after months of waiting; a couple of small survey payouts and a book sold on Amazon. My sales have dried up to a trickle:(, I expect people have more interest in doing outdoor stuff during the summer.
I'm deducting this from the £300 total that I have listed on page one (and which I had to use for emergencies early this year:o). Only another £93 to find before I'm back into the black and can start again. Not sure if I'll manage it this month though.0 -
Morning Everyone
Thank goodness it's Friday.....And I have Monday to look forward to when I'm going out to Madame Tussauds with one of my closest Friends...I know it's a bit tacky but I haven't been since I was a child and I really fancy seeing all the Star Wars stuff and seeing what it's like now....so I am really looking forward to that....
Work seems to be going okay...I pretty much had a day off yesterday, which I think was needed, and also slept for about 11 hours last night which I also think was needed...Have woken up feeling positive about the world today...So I'll take that and run with it
Thank You so much for everyone's concern...I will be okay...Just going through a rough patch right now...but I just have to keep on going...which I WILL do... xXx

carbootcrazy - Thank you, life is not too bad right now...I will get there...just got to keep on plugging away....I know what you mean about Diets, they seem hard work but just try to remember WHY you want to lose weight and what you are aiming towards...I'm also trying not to treat myself with food but rather days out or buying little things for myself online.... xXx

I don't think Madame Tussauds is tacky at all. I remember being taken there by my parents when we had a holiday in London when I was about 10. I absolutely loved it and am surprised, now you've reminded me of it, that I never went again on all subsequent visits to London in my adult life. I'll put it on my 'to do' list:T
I hope you have a lovely time there. It's always extra special when you can share things with great friends:beer:0 -
I went to Madame Tussauds a couple of weeks ago and it was really brilliant. Enjoy! Not giving up

#2 checking in
so we've had £196.19 go in
£40.00 go out for a tyres
so new total stands at £7077.70 aka 81.35%
Let's try again to get over and stay over the 80% mark......it's an ongoing battle

Oh, a full 23p interest has been added to my savings pot!
I've had another 17 pages of calculations from the council relating to my Council Tax, and a further reduction in my on going DD. However still no changes to the big bills that they sent me.
So I still don't know how long I can hang on to my savings for. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi Everyone! :j I'm a little late posting this month...
Added another £250.00 this month =
£1250.00/£1500.00 :T
Next month I'll hit my initial goal... which brings me to a question...
When we say we are saving 3-6 month's EF... What constitutes a 'month's fund'... Is it:
a) The sum of our total wage each month?
b) Just our expenditure we need to live on (e.g. rent/mortgage, bills, money for groceries and transport)...
I bring in £1500 a month but my expenditure is maybe £1000... so do I save 3-6 x £1500 or 3-6 x £1000?
Any thoughts? Thanks!!!⭐ DEBT FREE : 18/02/2025 ⭐

Hi Abundant,
Have you exceeded your target or is it a typo? in bold aboveWhen we say we are saving 3-6 month's EF... What constitutes a 'month's fund'... Is it:

Everyone is different, I think it's personal preference tbh.
Some people aim for expenditure, so they have a cushion, others for the total income so nothing changes in their standard of living should they need to use it.
I personally opted for the total income - I've since had a slight pay rise but have decided not to amend my target.
Do what you would prefer - you can always amend it if you change your mindI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards. Hey thanks for the advice! I think like you I'll keep it as is and not adjust for incremental wage increases/overtime.
Well spotted error too (now ammended!)... If only it was £12.5K hahaha!!!
