MSE News: Your Experian credit score might be about to drop
Credit reference agency Experian will soon give you a credit score out of 1,250, instead of the current 999, it has announced. Yet, while your Experian credit score's likely to drop as a result of the change, this WON'T affect the underlying data on your credit report – and it's that data (not your score) that lenders use…

BT/JCIA default
I have recently had a default registered against me by JC International Acquisition, I had no idea what for. Turns out it was a final bill from BT which was back in July of 2024, I don't remember this at all, as far as I was aware it was all paid and done when I switched broadband. I've heard nothing about it until I saw…

Default dates on credit report being changed right before they’re due to drop off?
I have two accounts that I defaulted on just over 6 years ago. This has now happened with both of them: Just after the date the default was due to "drop off" of my credit report (6 years), they have updated it to a random date a few years later, meaning it's back on my credit report. I've raised disputes for both of them…

Difficulties with HSBC and credit score in general

MSE Affordability Score shows my disposable income as "very poor" but my wife's as "excellent". Why?
My wife and I both have perfect credit records and decent incomes (mine was £112k last year and hers £131k). However, despite the fact that we split our expenses equally her disposable income rating on the MSE Affordability Score shows up as "excellent" and mine shows up as "very poor". This is borne out with our credit…

ClearScore's lax attitude towards personal data security
I recently tried to login to ClearScore with an account that I hadn't used for a long time. It rejected my login by telling me that my account already existed. Well, duh!! So I thought I'd try creating a new account, but it refused to accept the password that I'd set a few seconds earlier. So I tried a password reset and…

New account on Experian
Hi there Yesterday I received an email from Experian, stating that a new account has been added to my file. Upon logging in to Experian, I've noticed that my usually perfect credit score has dipped, and there is a note that I have borrowed £20. I have no need to borrow any money (apart from my mortgage), so this has me…

"Your debt has gone up by £340 since your previous total balance"
Clearscore says that, at my last update on 17th October, my Barclaycard balance went up from £340 to £414, but I've always paid it off in full, and my balance is currently at £0 again. So why does the fact my balance was higher than the previous one, matter? Isn't spending money on the card, what you're supposed to do?
