Is it smart to stop PAYE?
Normally people pay tax every month via PAYE however I heard that you can remove yourself from PAYE and do your own tax return at the end of the tax year which means you can earn interest on the tax. Is it this something people would consider smart? How common is this? Are there any problems with doing this?

Crystall ball required for rates.
Although this is more relevant to my next ISA choice of transfer, it applies to all savings. With the US tariff situation, is there ANY way of knowing if interest rates here may drop at a slower rate than previously thought? Normally I wouldn't be too picky but with ISAs it could be worth hundreds between a lower fixed…

Anyone buying stocks at the moment?
I've been buying every month for about 2 years and at one point I was 28% up, now I'm only 5% up which feels painful, but then I remember this is a long term thing and pound cost averaging wins long term. But with such a sharp selloff I decided to transfer 20% of my emergency fund to my stocks & shares ISA to buy some more…

Over Saving Interest maximum
Hello I've been saving for a house and just realised that I have gone over the £1000 tax free saving amount which I can earn before I pay tax on interest earned, on my savings. (I'm a standard rate tax payer) FYI I found this was happening when my national insurance number changed and a larger amount was charged for income…

AGMs - what do you do?
Now I’ve got accounts with a fair few building societies it’s the season of the year with emails and post giving me the opportunity to vote. I’ve voted a few times before - mainly because they were offering charity donation for voting papers completed or just because I felt obliged to. The reality is I would usually go…

Silver / Gold products on discount sale?
I've recently become interested in buying a small amount of gold / silver (not a lot, but thought it can't hurt to own a little). I noticed that some of the websites (eg. bullionbypost) have some products - normally commemorative coins / mints etc - on sale (eg 15% off), as well as selling "second hand" gold / silver (?) I…

Setting up discretionary trust - is my understanding correct?
My parents are looking to setup a trust to gift some money to grandkids. I understand the differences between bare vs discretionary trust. If the tax is not so punitive we would like to use discretionary given the control. Obviously we will speak to a specialist(s) on this. But from my understanding there is a way around…

https://quantum-ai-trading.com/thankyou/ is a scam. Registered, a few minutes later got calls. Already decided it was a scam and said I wasn't interested. Caller argued with me, I hang up, blocked. This happened a few times - maybe the 4th time I just kept them on playing the tv loud - they were really angry. verious…

CGT Date of Disposal Query
Hello I have forgotten to use my CGT AEA Allowance for 24/25. If I sell an OEIC tonight, will that still be considered a 24/25 Financial Year sale for tax purposes? https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/capital-gains-manual/cg14250 This manual leads me to believe the answer may be Yes as the contract will have been made…

Invest with my child, not necessarily jisa
Hi I am after any advice on how I might invest with my child aged 13. I am keen to show him the benefits and potential pitfalls of investing, compound growth etc. We will probably put in £20-25 per month, the key point being he will make the decisions and "learn". Most likely we will choose funds as that's my preference…

W-8BEN Do I need to complete this?
Some guidance would be appreciated: I have recently opened a "Stocks & Shares" ISA with Trading 212 following on from the MSE post about getting £40 free shares. Trading 212 have asked me to complete a W-8BEN form - do I need to do this and why? I'm new to this so not sure. Thanks in advance

Does anyone have any experience of inheriting a Holiday Property Bond?
Hi, I was hoping to hear some experiences from anybody who has inherited an HPB please. A family member wants to add me as an additional life assured person, and I've been sent a form to fill in with my details - including medical details which I find a little bizarre, but guessing this is a standard part of life…

secondary reference data/roll number
Hello, I was trying to open an ISA and they are requesting a SRD. As far as I could find out, it is either your card number or your ¨roll number¨. I have never asked to provide my card number before, is this usual or safe? I cannot find a ¨roll number¨anywhere either on my statements or online baking, and my account is…

Child Turning 18 on 5 April... any savings tips?
Just that really. Could she open a LISA and catch this year's benefits? Anything else we should be doing last minute (totally on brand for me I'm afraid...)? I'm anxious that me not being particularly savvy and her being single focus on her A Levels might cost her some £££s down the line. Thank you!

Fscs limits not applicable for platform provider??

safety of increasing my Aviva ISA to over 85k fscs limit: “ with your Aviva ISA

To SIPP, or not to SIPP ....?
I'm 64 and retired. My wife is 63 and still works for the family business. Each year I contribute the maximum for a non-earner (£2,880) to my SIPP; and the business contributes around £6,336 to my wife's, matching her salary. The rationale is that all the unused funds would go to our kids free of IHT. After the recent…
