So....April 6th
Those ready with lump sums to invest come Monday (and a long enough time horizon) are you at all put off by investing into equities right now? I'm still very new to investing (2-3yrs) so the recent Trump related dips and maybe blockchain volatility are the only times I've seen the boat rock so to speak. Yes yes I…

Dollar cost averaging (DCA) strategy
Hi I know that lump summing into the market beats DCA 60%+ of the time but let's just say you wanted to DCA in, what is the best strategy? Traditionally DCA would involve making monthly payments, so 12 payments a year. With the likes of T212 you can set pies which allow you to invest daily, weekly or monthly with minimal…

Marlowe plc Ordinary Shares
I have just been checking my share dealings and have come across an anomaly. In July 2024 I bought Marlowe plc and sold them in November, with a £1,000+ loss When I look on Google the price of Marlowe plc was less than 250, I then sold in Nov when Google showed the share price at 350When I sold my Hargreaves Lansdown…

Don't have to file your Self Assessment return
Inspired by a similar thread & lighthearted. After nearly 30 years I have not been reminded to do SA nor do I expect to. Started as a low earner but with some company shares, paid early because of a takeover, I self declared, not run their course, 50+ other people in the company, who did nothing, never got any comeback.…

Trading 212 - HSBC say it is a scam
I successfully opened a Trading 212 ISA with funds coming from HSBC. My wife also opened one up with a small (£1?) amount and then attempted to top it up to £20k. HSBC fraud intervened and told he it was a scam, even after telling them she had downloaded the app from Apple (not just a website), it was recommended by MSE…

What is the difference between a fixed term savings account, and a fixed-term bond?
This may be a silly question, sorry! I have been looking at savings accounts after maxing out my ISA already this year. There are fixed interest account savings, but also fixed interest bonds, all with various deposit and withdrawal restrictions. I'm not sure what the difference is though? Is there a difference in terms of…

Pension Crash
Hi. I’m 9 years from retirement so I’ve got a little way to go. But my pension has lost £21k in the last week due to market fluctuations and the Trump trade tariffs. My worry is that this is going to erode away my pension pot and not leave enough time to recover my losses. Can anyone offer and advice

Self-assessment and discrepancies
After a long period of low interest rates it's only been in the last 3 years that I've exceeded my personal savings allowance. In both 22-23 and 23-24 HMRC's figure for the interest I received hasn't matched my own records. However as the differences were only very small I took the view that it would all even itself out in…

Which Regular Savings Account is better
I have the option of a 1yr regular saver with a fixed rate of 4.85% on maximum monthly deposits of £250 or a 6 month regular saver with a fixed rate of 7.5% on maximum monthly deposits of £200. Which is the best option? Obviously there will be more money in the 1yr version.

Easy access account with debit card
Hi I'm trying to help my dad look for an easy access account which has a debit card, it's going to be under 5k. It could be fixed although I just don't want the hassle of having to sort it out again next year. Any advice?

Why do never-investor always say "the market took x amount of years to recover"?
It physically pains me to see the argument of "in 1929 it took 25 years to recover. In 2000 it took 7 years to recover, then crashed again and took another 6 years to recover etc etc. The act like every investor only buys once with their entire life savings? Seriously who takes £100,000 and just buys once and doesn't do…

Closing Hampshire Trust Bank account is slow - anyone done it?
HTB's preferred method of closing an account is by secure message, with the "close the account" box ticked - this fills in the message text as "close my account", and stops you from editing it more. I sent that on Sunday 6th; they say "we aim to reply to all messages within 3 working days". Now on the 4th working day,…

Maximising interest and the personal savings allowance
Hello I would appreciate some feedback on whether I have done my maths correctly here. For the next tax year I believe I will go up into a higher tax bracket, though I don't seem to be able to find clear information on how the personal savings allowance applies in Scotland and at what income the allowance goes down to…
