Fixed year bond that only pays interest at Maturity
I want to move my savings into a 3 year bond. At that point I expect to retire. However, my preference is to have the interest at maturity, not annually. Is there such an account. Everyone I have called and tried all say the interest is paid annually. thanks

File your Self Assessment return
Here we go again - another tax year. Only 4 days in and I have already received the email demanding I 'file my Self-Assessment return'.I would be happy to do so if HMRC were to sort out their own processes such that I don't have to wait until November before I can request a copy of the BBSI report for savings interest. The…

Advice wanted re tax on savings interest
Hello, I wonder if anyone can help me with a query? I have recently come into some money and currently have it invested and managed by a financial adviser, but I'm concerned about the charges, specifically that they'll wipe out any gains. I wanted to know if I invested the money in a savings account instead (£90K), would I…

HL fee query when dealing funds
Apologies for my ignorance but I find the HL help pages quite confusing ... I want to sell an Income Fund which is held in a GIA with HL and re-buy it within my HL ISA. As this is a fund, do HL make any charge to buy and sell if I place the deals online? Thanks.

Explain please...
Monevator's newsletter today: "Trump’s supporters don’t care less that China ultimately buying a lot less US stuff would mean it would have far less need to hold shedloads of US treasuries. "Nor that unwinding China’s US debt stockpile would see US rates soar, crippling US households." I'd like to understand how these…

Investing - Where to start?
Hi So I'm at the point now where I think I have too much in savings and probably need to start moving some into investments, especially as we start to see the savings rates reduce and interest start to dwindle. I'm not completely new to investing, I popped a couple of thousand into a S&S ISA last year divided between a…

SJP Portfolio value drop
Hi. I was hoping for a little guidance on the following situation. My partner has a medium/high risk portfolio with SJP. At the beginning of February this year it was approximately £535k. Her fund manager advised withdrawing some £20k from the pension as it could be tax free. The pot has been dropping in value and, as of…

Those ready with lump sums to invest come Monday (and a long enough time horizon) are you at all put off by investing into equities right now? I'm still very new to investing (2-3yrs) so the recent Trump related dips and maybe blockchain volatility are the only times I've seen the boat rock so to speak. Yes yes I…

Dollar cost averaging (DCA) strategy
Hi I know that lump summing into the market beats DCA 60%+ of the time but let's just say you wanted to DCA in, what is the best strategy? Traditionally DCA would involve making monthly payments, so 12 payments a year. With the likes of T212 you can set pies which allow you to invest daily, weekly or monthly with minimal…
