Railcards and online train bookings
Could someone please confirm what a friend has told me, namely that when buying a train ticket online and using a railcard, you don't need to prove you have that railcard at the time of booking? I'm not trying to fiddle anything, its just that my wife doesn't qualify for her senior railcard until the middle of June but we…

Preparing to go to war with Evans Cycles.....
I've been buying a cycle from Evans Cycles through my company's cycletowork scheme and, in a nutshell, it's been an unmitigated disaster.I ordered a Raleigh Motus Evans Exclusive 2021 Electric Hybrid Bike from them on the 28th of May. I received no communication about when it was to be delivered. So I was at work when they…

Denied refund from Southeastern
I recently applied for a refund for my weekly travel ticket as I received a notification telling me to self isolate. I'd only used the ticket for two days. This is their reply: "Refunds are calculated based on the amount of travel already taken, rather than what’s remaining. This is due to the way in which Season ticket…

London day trip Travelcard or Oyster?
My family, 2 adults and 1 child, are planning a day trip to London in August. We will arrive at Paddington. From there I expect we will make about 4 journeys on the Tube including returning to Paddington. What would be the cheapest way to pay for the travel within London? Also can the tickets be paid for in advance?

Rail Flexi- tickets what a joke!
I am writing this post as I am really angry at the Flexi-ticket system that was revealed yesterday. The Government hailed it as the "biggest shake-up of the rail system" in decades, but frankly what a disappointment! A joke even. It will benefit some people but let me give you one example: My girlfriend and I live in…

Railcard Discount Pricing Scam?
My disabled daughter has a Disabled Persons Railcard. She has recently been complaining to me that when she goes to book a ticket with her railcard, she is not given the full 33% discount. The rail operator appears to be able to achieve this by manipulating the underlying price of the standard adult ticket as soon as she…

Used Splitmyfare, but 1 set of tickets missing from journey (??)
Edit: False Alarm. It was just one leg that was unreservable. The main ticket covers the entire journey, but there's one change that isn't allocated seating. I had so many tickets, it was hard to tell! I've just booked a journey for two people using Splitmyfare (which saved me quite a bit). Unfortunately - when I went to…

UBER Charging Me For a Journey That took place 3 years ago - Rights?!
I was hoping someone could support. In December 2018 I took an Uber whilst in London.
I have not used Uber since last Saturday. I checked my Paypal account and saw they had charged me twice albeit different amounts. I queried this and they claim it is from the journey I had in 2018. They claim they failed to charge me at…

Is it not possible to buy 'anytime' rail tickets any more?
Is it not possible to buy a generic rail ticket between A and B any more? The station ticket machines, and now the online booking sites it would seem, try to force you to select exact services. I can't see a way to buy e.g. a basic advance return. Next question is, if you do choose a particular service and then miss your…

GWR £10 admin fee for refunds
I bought my tickets for travel today on Sunday via the GWR app, however I am off sick with tonsillitis and tried to either change the date of travel or get a refund. The app would not even allow me to process it because the £10 admin fee is higher than the cost of the ticket., The staff in the contact centre (probably…

Inaccurate and incomplete witness statement to support allegation of fare evasion - can I challenge?
Hello I have been issued a Single Justice Procedure notice by TfL with the criminal charge of fare evasion. The incident happened in late 2018 when I accidentally used a relative's freedom pass to tap through the barriers at an underground station instead of my own. I was the relative's carer and often carried their pass…

Are newsagents allowed to make a few bob on Oyster travelcard cash transactions?
One casualty of the ongoing pandemic is that cash facilities have been withdrawn from London underground ticket machines. It is still possible however to use cash to purchase Oyster topups/tickets at newsagents. Now one newsagent that I am aware of was charging almost 10% extra for Oyster travelcard purchase transactions.…

Penalty fare letters despite paying fine
My daughter was issued a fine a few weeks ago after being unable to buy a ticket in London after a night shift. When she arrived at her destination, she approached the staff at the station and told them she had been unable to get a ticket and wanted to buy one. This had haopened on a couple of previous occasions with no…

part time rail season tickets
Back in August (2020) announcements were made about part time rail season tickets. Now that we're finally heading back to work, many of us 3 days a week, we're faced with the prospect of buying annual season tickets (>£6,000) which will go part unused, or pay for daily returns three days a week which will cost more than…
