Best rail card

My daughter will be 18 in October. She currently travels by train to her 6th form college and at the moment uses the 16-17 rail card. My issue is that a full price ticket is approx £11.00 and she needs to be there for 9.00am, soo no other rail card will work. I feel that she will be penalised financially simply because she is older for her academic year. The 16-17 railcard isn't fit for purpose as I believe as it should tie into the academic year's for the 6th form, years 12-13. Can anyone please advise what a viable alternative is. The bus takes approx 1.75 hours each way and she gets quite travel sick, therfore this isn't a realistic option. Many thanks

Is she learning to drive? She can use her 16-17 Railcard to buy a season ticket which extends 4 months after her birthday.. That would give her a year from now in which to pass her driving test. Is there anyone she can lift-share with?#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

If the route is one on which advance tickets can be obtained for the times which she needs to travel, then the minimum price threshold of £12 before 10am does not apply to such tickets, and a 16-25 Railcard can be used.1

Unfortunately she is still on a waiting list for driving lessons and her friends are from all over the area surrounding the college, not particularly near us!JGB1955 said:Is she learning to drive? I’ve just checked and there are no advance ticket prices. It’s a standard commuter route in this area. I just feel she (we) are being penalised because of when her birthday falls in the academic year.jbuchanangb said:If the route is one on which advance tickets can be obtained for the times which she needs to travel, then the minimum price threshold of £12 before 10am does not apply to such tickets, and a 16-25 Railcard can be used.0 -
Are you in an area with a Passenger Transport Executive? If so they may offer local rail travel reductions for u19s.1

The county council may provide some sort of discount scheme. Have you looked at their website?
Here is Surrey's as an example

I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?1
