Documents unobtainable
I purchased a van a while ago which did not come with the service documents. It was an ex council van and so servicing was done in-house. I have since contacted the said council to get hold of the service documents but they stated that they were unable to pass them onto me by law. Sounds a bit ridiculous, is this true?

No Claims Evidence Car insurance
I recently provided proof of my no claims car insurance. The company wouldn't accept the evidence as it was from an existing policy. They asked for proof from a cancelled policy. Has anyone come across this in the past?

Fuel filter change, noisy fuel lines?!
Earlier this month I changed the fuel filter in my 1.5 DCI K9K engine (NV200) and it's driving beautifully. But, that's where the good news ends. After 20 or so miles and over the usual engine noise this faint but present 'whine' developed in the background. Usually it gets to full pitch once the engines started to warm…

MOT-type checks outside of an MOT
Hi, there are a few bits on my old car
that are going to depend on the opinion of the MOT tester whether it'll get through with some work needing to be done, or lots of work. It's not in a great state but I've been told that it will depend on who looks at it. Is it possible to take it to the same garage that I would get to…

Voluntary Termination
Hi, I have a HP with Startline and am looking to do a Voluntary Termination. I have around £200 to pay before I get to the 50% limit. I'm just wondering if this goes against me on my credit file or if it's in my rights for me to hand the car back? The car is in good condition with no major damage, it's low mileage and will…

Wrong way during traffic jam on A34
Hi all, Recently there was a very serious accident on the A34. I was driving to see family when I was caught in the standstill traffic this caused. We were stuck completely motionless for around 40 minutes before some cars started coming the wrong way back to the previous junction, making their way through the gap between…

Faulty part
I had a car component replaced and then moved over 200 miles out of the area to live somewhere else. About 1 month later, the same problem has reoccurred, which was confirmed by a diagnostic test completed by a local garage. The original garage agrees that the fault codes are the same as the original fault they repaired…

NCD transfer after bereavement.
My late wife's vehicle was registered to her, and insured with me as a named driver. I am struggling to understand the transfer of NCD to enable the car to be insured in my name. Some companies are indicating that I can use her NCD of 19years. I was always under the impression that NCD related to the person and not the…

Audi Finance excessive call charges
I recently took out a service plan through my local Audi garage, I started getting a receipt every month for the payment. It comes in a large envelope with two A4 sheets of paper. One just has my address on the other one details of the amount paid. I emailed them to state that as I have proof of payment via my bank…

Any pro/con to prefer home Tesla EV charger for non-Tesla car?
An unexpected car bill means we're looking to see if it's worth getting a newer car. Is there any expectation that prices become lower in the next year? I've not had to look for a car for over a decade, but used EVs/PHEVs are, perhaps, just within our price range given that we rarely do long journeys. I see numerous…

Would a high-mileage Honda Civic still be reliable enough?
We've been without a car for about two years now as we rarely used the car - about 2.5k miles a year, of which 1.5k were a single, long trip. However, we may need to buy one again and we're looking around. The key criteria are that it is cheap-ish (£10k at most - or thereabouts), (ideally) Japanese, automatic and, most…

Motor Insurance Database
I recently received a letter from Hampshire police informing me that my vehicle was not on this. There was no mention of any possibility of charges, it was just a "friendly Poke" to look into my insurance situation. I paid LV money in May for insurance and received an email stating I was insured from May 2024 to May 2025.…

Wrongly accused of not paying for fuel
Hello. On holiday this year, we stopped for fuel (Scotland). I'm the driver and my husband hopped out to put in the fuel and went to pay. He was ages. This was because the driver before had not paid for his fuel - it seemed to get sorted out and my husband paid for our fuel. However, we have now just received an…
