Hit and run and insurance
Hi my car was damaged mildly in an unwitnessed hit and run. Have protected ncd. I didn't realise this would be a fault claim and excess being deducted from any repair or total loss. I went through gocompare who provided £250 free excess, but AA say they know nothing about it. Any thoughts? Additionally, what % would this…

Valid Rejection on 5 week old car?
Hey all, I bought a car around 5 weeks ago, and whilst I love the car the quality has been very poor. The car was bought on PCP brand new. First off the car was missing some of the spec/trim however I didn’t mind the look so they were great and agreed to fit one of the extra packs as a compliment instead of the extra trim.…

Car engine cap issue
Hoping someone can help as I’m rather clueless when it comes to cars! I bought a Hyundai Tuscon from motorpoint back in Feb along with purchasing 1 year extra warranty. I took it for a service & MOT last week and was told by the garage that he had to replace the engine cap as there was a Kia cap on the engine. When…

Informing insurers of repairs, self-paid?
Do you tell your insurers of any bumps/scrapes/repairs which you have paid for yourself and not claimed for. I have recently had a claim/repairs and during the phone call, was asked and said I had also had a minor bump, paid by myself. They still required details, as it builds up a picture of my driving.

How to tell if my car will be written off?
My car has a valid MOT till next summer and drives perfectly well. However it has a fault which would lead to definite MOT failure next time - a big crack in the windscreen in front of the driver. This windscreen is not replaceable through the usual sources because the car is an import, never having been sold commercially…

Car insurance in the thousands after at fault claim
I had a small accident where I knocked into the back of another car at a slow speed. Their car had a damaged bumper and my car was written off. I am looking at quotes and have been quoted in the £3000s for basic car insurance on a £2000-£3000 low insurance group car. I had business insurance that I paid around £800 for. I…

DVLA licence renewal refuse to accept my passport photo
I am required to renew over 70 licence. They promote doing this online, but after going through the whole process including giving passport number etc it states its not possible to use online photo as DVLA are unable to confirm my identity online. It gives no reason on why this is the case. I then called their chat line…

Karcher K2 pressure washer
I have been given a K2 pressure washer and understand that as long as I use a low setting and use it from approx two feet away, it will be fine for washing a car. However, I have a small stone chip mark, on the thin edge of my door, which I have painted/dabbed over. Will this still be okay for the pressure washer?

An economical, reliable second car ?
Our car is going to be in the garage getting fixed for several days and we really need to buy a second car to tide us over on such occasions. So recommendations please for a small, reliable, second hand car which would be cheapish re. tax and insurance. Fuel consumption not important as it would not be used very much.…

Car ins.due for renewal, should I add my learner driver son (prov. licence) as named driver?
I'm guessing it will increase my premium from 400 up to 600 or 700 but I am paying £50 a month to Veygo at the moment for insurance and it will probably be 4/5 months before he does his test. I'm guessing that if I add him when he passes his test that they will charge an admin fee of £50+ just for changing the policy and I…

Car breakdown issues directly after garage service - garage not taking responsibility
Summary: I recently got my car serviced and very soon afterwards my car started to break down. I've decided to treat myself to a new car as my 14 year old Hyundai i10 needs some costly repairs and is slowly rusting away. Approx £1100 repair cost so far and probably more to pass it's MOT The parts have to come from Hyundai and could take months The most costly part is the air con, £600 plus and £300 for wiper…

Cancelling car agreement
I paid a deposit and signed an agreement to purchase a vehicle on finance but I’m not sure I have made the right decision and I’m not confident in the finance company the dealership has chosen due to previous issues with my current/outgoing car. Extra expenses from insurance claim
I had my car written off after a third party drove into it from behind. I have settled for the car but my insurers say they are not liable for any other costs - taxi to get home, road tax paid (due to delay declaring written off) and annoyingly £25 to amend my policy for a new car! All of these were a direct result of the…
