Hello My father and step mother recently brought up the fact they are getting a Will in place. The house they are currently living in was bought outright using solely my fathers funds after the marital home between him and my mother was sold. She made several comments that 1. “Everybody thinks it was just your father who…

Mum has shopping addiction, has taken out lifetime mortgage on her home
Hi everyone, Perhaps the title is an overly simplistic one for what is actually a rather complex situation; but I'll try and make this as succinct as possible... My mum always has had issues around her spending, to the point my dad (bless him) was working two jobs. Back when we were teens, it was Franklin Mint; jewellery,…

Legally marry and not inform anyone - official or family
Can you legally get married in the UK and not tell anyone? By anyone - I mean ANYONE, family, friends, employers, the state, 'official' people. I know you're wondering why. The main reason being that we don't want anyone to know as it would cause a lot of family problems, arguments etc (we're not cousins by the way!) But I…

Loneliness
I don't have a partner or children. I live 250 miles from my nearest family, work from home so find it difficult to make friends with work colleagues who often live equally far away. Working from home I sometimes don't leave the house much, so I don't see people in general. I find it hard to make friends & don't have a…

Direct debits after name change
Hello, I’ve recently changed my name at the bank to my married name and I’m completely confused on if my existing outgoing direct debits will remain fine? Do I need to frantically call around and try and update my details or will my maiden name be fine if all other details have remained the same - sort code and account…

Sheriff court executor letter
Hi, my mum has passed away and I am her only surviving child. Having spoken to a clerk in the sheriff court office I believe I need to draft a letter to the court to be appointed as an executor of her estate. Does anyone have any advice on the wording as I fear it will need to be in legal speak which can be very specific…

LPA health and welfare
If this has been discussed already I apologise and would appreciate a link. Basically, we need to update our will and doing LPA at the same time. Wondering if it’s worth doing ‘health and welfare’ as well as ‘property and finance’. We are only mid fifties and work in health and not sure if it’s worth the extra costs. All…

Purchases over £100 when you are a POA - consumer rights
Does anyone know how consumer rights work for POA when you purchase large ticket items such as stairlifts, converting a bathroom to a wet room and basically anything over £100 when the donor and POAs only have a debit card? POA can’t apply for loans, o/d or credit cards. Where does the donor and POA stand if they purchase…

Asked to leave family home, I don't want to
Good morning all, a potted history: Met my (ex) partner in 2010, moved in together 2011, had our one and only child in 2012. I'm 55 years of age, my ex is 54. Had a rough few years with the little one, development issues which are still ongoing but its totally destroyed me and the ex mentality. Apart from little sleep for…

LPA amendment/revocation
Two years ago my mother set up a finance and property LPA naming my sister and I as attorneys. We have recently discovered that she mistakenly ticked the box for making decisions ‘jointly’ rather than ‘Jointly and severally’. She wants to correct this, and still has capacity. Does she need to completely revoke the old LPA…

I just feel so alone...
Hi everyone, I feel the need to post this as there are a few things going on in my life at the moment (you may have just read my post about my daughter and employment). As the title says, I just feel so alone. I wouldn't really say I have any "friends" to speak of. There are people that I talk to, such as people I see at…
