How should I tackle this please
Hi Please can anyone advise what to do with this loose shower tray sealant ? Should I seal over the top of the loose patch of the sealant just at the point where it’s lifted ? Or should I pull the current strip completely off which I’m nervous about doing incase I don’t replace it well. As you can see from the photo some…

Condensate Pipe Insulation
Can anyone recommend some good pipe insulation for an external condensate pipe? It's a fairly old boiler install so standard 22mm condensate pipe which is currently wrapped in the standard, grey foam lagging which is now crumbling away so would like to replace it with something more suitable for the outdoors.

Loft Boarding in New Home
Been told by a New Home developer that they don't recommend you board lofts anymore - is this true? Is there a reason why? Anyone any experience of doing this and were there any problems?

Why is my flat suffering water hammer?
I live on the top floor of a three storey building in the UK. Recently, when the neighbour's of the flat(s?) below mine use water, there is often a repeating crack or loud noise in the airing cupboard of my flat. This noise appears to originate at the point at which the water supply pipe enters emerges through the floor…

Advice Needed: Cost to Install Bath Shower Mixer Tap
Hi, I wasn’t sure where to post this, so I hope it’s in the right place. I’m looking for advice on how much a plumber might charge to install a bath shower mixer tap. I live in a housing association property, and our bath/shower mixer tap has broken. The lever that switches between bath and shower snapped off, and the tap…

Noise from toilet cistern after flushing
So a fairly new toilet was working fine until one day it started to make a noise. It comes as the flush/water stops and before it fills up again. I can only describe it like air getting in somewhere. A sort of rasp or sucking noise. Not loud, just not as it should be. Any idea what it might be please? I've just noticed the…

Loft Eaves Solid Wall Insulation
Hello, I'm converting my loft in a 1900's solid brick terrace house. Within the Eaves areas I have applied PIR board & insulated plasterboard to the inside of the roof area. However on the exposed internal & external walls within in the Eaves area I tried fixing plasterboard with dot & dab adhesive. However mould appeared…

Chimney Stack Damp & Hygroscopic salts
Hello, I'm seeking opinion on the most sure way of plastering/plasterboarding a chimney stack that has both damp patches and hygroscopic salts. I have/will have ventilated this chimney stack as much as possible, but I believe it will continue to retain damp in the brickwork and thus always have a risk of damp patches…

Willow Whips are they good to be at fence for privacy?
I was looking for replacement options for the Leylandii I cut down along the boundary with my neighbour. Since the next property is an industrial estate, height is not really an issue. The most cost-effective option I’ve found so far is buying tall willow rods, which are available up to 4 m in length. I understand they may…

The hole goes from the inside all the way to the outside of the house, through the cavity wall. Vents on both ends. Inside the hole is a large round plastic tube which is hollow. No idea what this…

The dirt that came out from my radiator!
Hi, as I wrote other times in the past my radiator at the second floor got hot only at the top, while the bottom remained cold. Today I've finally cleaned it in the shower, with hot water and using a game of pipes, making water flow in both directions, up and down, for something like an hour. The stuff that came out is…

Cheapest way to legally dispose of a fridge/freezer
As the title says. I have a fridge freezer with a fault - the temperature in the fridge is warm and the freezer is roughly fridge temperature, though that may be the sealed unit keeping the temp low. It’s a 4 year old beko, so this is disappointing. As it happens, we are having a new kitchen with integrated appliances…

How do I prepare this wall for painting
I want to paint this wall but I've noticed a couple of cracks. I think they're where the paint was put on too thick and has chipped but I've never painted a wall before so I'm not sure. Do I just sand it? Or does it need sanding then filling?
