Gas cooker disconnected - will buyer accept the certificate?
I would like to check this certificate will suffice:I have sold my property as the buyer does not want the gas cooker, so I had it disconnected and capped by a gas safe engineer. As no testing was carried out on the cooker before disconnecting etc. almost everything on the gas certificate states N/A. It only says the gas…

Does this exist? 900mm wide electric hob with 2 x 13amp plugs (UK)
Our 900 x 500mm, electric hob (that came with the house) had to be disposed of, and I've been looking for a replacement. It ran off 3 x 13amp plug sockets rather than a 32amp oven socket, and I'm hoping to replace like-for-like. I've scoured the internet, but can only find 900mm wide ones that wire into a 32amp socket.…

Cutting integrated bathroom worktop
I am looking to improve the sink and vanity unit in our cloakroom, running the unit across the full width of the room, but none of the existing units seem to come in the right size. I could fabricate the cabinet myself but to have a neat top I would ideally like to buy a sink with integrated worktop, made of resin, and cut…

Redecorating
I've just removed wallpaper from walls that were plastered around 60 years ago. I'll make repairs to it as required. What's the quickest and easiest way to prime the walls before putting up wallpaper? I'm not looking for an expert's result, just something that'll last 3-4 years, when I might get a decorator in.

Ventilating loft to lower temperature upstairs.
HiHas anyone any experience of cooling their loft to cool their bedrooms?Mine has slatted soffits for ventilation but nowhere for the air to escape so it gets extremely hot - there's no air movement at all unless it's windy - and despite plenty of fibre insulation [I put another 6" on top of what the builders gave me] this…

Anyone got one of those pole chainsaws?
Hi folks, I am on the lookout for one of those Pole Saws to cut a hedge, basically a small chainsaw on a extendable pole, Lidl do them but haven't seen them in a while, where I live the Parkside one was supposed to be in stock a few months ago, but none of the local Lidl stories had any. They cost around £40 without…

Where do I stand?
Not sure if anyone can help but couldn’t think where else to post. My neighbours property borders with our houses private car park. He recently asked if we would mind him putting scaffold up in our space to fix his roof. We were told it would be a few days. A week later and he knocks on my door and tells me it needs to…

Boot print on new porcelain tiles
Hi everyone, I’ve recently (few days ago) had porcelain tiles laid in my garden. Like an idiot I must have walked on some cement/primer/unsure of the residue which has left a boot print. I have tried washing it down with washing liquid and scrubbing it which hasn’t worked and today have tried HG cement remover which also…

ADT Alarm BT premium phone line
Hi, I have recently taken power of attorney of my 90 year old mum's finances and discovered that for 15 months BT has taken just shy of £22,000.00 from my mums account. When I queried this I was told it was an ADT premium line, it had been dialling every 10 minutes 24/7 @ .30p a go. My mum does not have a contract with…

Lathe, horsehair or asbestos?
I'm not an expert but hope someone can take a look at this picture. Adult son has just left home so I decided to start redecorating his room. I rarely ventured into his room when he was still living here. There's a hole in the wall - put there during a teenage tantrum.....which I had a proper look at now. Is this asbestos?…

Builder problems - failed buildings control inspection
TLDR: We spent £65k for the first stages of a £400-500k extension and renovation project on a builder I will call Paul. However the buildings inspector says that most of his work does not meet the required standards and will need to be taken down and redone. I’m worried that he has also breached the rules on my home…

Is Archers Sleepcentre any good for beds?
I am in the market for a standard double bed (divan base) and mattress. I have only bought 2 beds in my lifetime, both the same type as above - the first was £100 from ebay (which was obviously awful!) and the second was about £400 from dreams (which I was very happy with). I was going to get my next one from Dreams (£250…

How to make this computer desk look half decent
Hi folks, I have a large, grey (out of warranty) desk from Maison Du Monde. It's mostly fine, but the surfaces that are touched/leaned on regularly are in a bad way. The paintwork has come off and it looks a mess. I was tempted to sticker-bomb the bad parts, but my partner said that will look daft. She suggested I sand it…
