Scam loft insulation call

Just received a call from a company 'called' Loft Wise based in Birmingham. They started with a cold call asking various questions regarding if we had loft insulation installed by a Goverment scheme and stating it can cause condensation and stating they can arrange a 'free' survey, point is you cannot ask questions as it is pre recoded. Then you get a call from a polite lady asking questions about your age? Why this has to do with loft insulation i don't know…I decided to inform the lady that i suspected this to be a scam at this point they decided to end the call..

Please be aware..

Have you checked Companies House to see how long ago it was set up and what other activities the directors have engaged in?

It's a robocall, designed to get sales leads. Don't engage with them.

The moment you realise this isn't someone you want to speak to then the best thing to do is to just hang up.

Just told them it was no good speaking to me as we were in rented. They haven't called back since.

Get the occasional cold call claiming to be conducting a "survey". Have been told

    • Fibreglass insulation has been deemed not fit for purpose.
    • The Asthma Association has found it to be a major source of health issues.

The Asthma Association has posted a disclaimer on their web site saying it is fake.

When asked just who has determined that fibreglass is "not fit by purpose" along with a copy of the report, you can hear the tumbleweeds rolling across the plains.

The whole thing is a scam aimed at getting a salesman in to flog you spray foam insulation - I have had one of these pitches falsely pitched as a thermographic survey, and had to put up with his bull[redacted]. Claiming that fibreglass has a lifespan of 8-10 years (more like 80), and he could put his hand down inside the cavity from inside the loft. Seeing as it is a solid 9" brick wall up there, either a miracle worker, or a blatant liar. Gave the guy a stiff talking to when he started going on about spray foam and also pointed out his factual errors before kicking him out on the street. Tarring and feathering is too good for these clowns.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I like the one where they assume that you have the bad type of insulation & must have it taken out & replaced. I suspect it is someone using a call-list from somewhere connected with older people hoping we are easier to con.

Assume any cold call is going to be a scam and you won't go far wrong. I would never accept even a visit from a cold caller.
