Windows and Doors Classic

Hello

What are the rough prices people have and for Windows and Doors?

We've had the classic £23,500 down to £12,000 within a couple of phone calls for 6 new units (one is a bay) and two new UPVC doors.

Very subjective but is this a relatively okay deal?

Probably £12K is in the right ballpark, but personally I would be wary about companies using these sort of pricing tactics.

Have you tried a couple of local companies ?

If they are offering 50% discount, you can be sure that it was grossly overpriced to start with and the current offer is still way too high. If you take a ballpark of £1000 per door and window, £8-10K would be nearer the mark.

Always, always use a local company that has a reputation to protect and doesn't engage in these inflated pricing and give a discount tactics. You don't expect to go through the same charade when food shopping, so why do it for home improvements.. And get at least three other quotes from local installers.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I found a couple of local companies that just came up with quotes, no reductions, no discounts for a quick decision, no favours done by the manager, just straight forward numbers.

Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • i’ve had all the doors & windows replaced on my terraced house over the last two years in South Yorkshire & it effectively cost £1000 per “hole”. It’s a small house with no bay windows etc & I went for normal white uPVC double glazes units. Seven holes (two doors, five windows) cost £7000 in total with some of the cost made up of scaffolding where a bigger house will cost more.

I got eight windows, including two bays, done for £5500 a few years ago. I wouldn't deal with companies that can whip up silly discounts like that. Walk away and find someone who just gives you a straight quote.

Since 2020 , the cost of raw materials has gone up a lot more than normal inflation ( which has been about 25% since 2020) . That includes UPVC and additives used with it. Rubber seals, glass, steel etc.

Plus there has been a shortage of skilled workers/fitters in the building industry since Covid.

  • That kind of price swing usually happens when companies start with a “high quote then discount” approach, so it’s good that you compared multiple offers.

For 6 windows (including a bay) + 2 UPVC doors, £12k is generally in a realistic mid-range depending on:

    • frame quality (standard vs premium uPVC)
    • double vs triple glazing
    • installation complexity (bay window can increase cost)
    • energy efficiency rating

The more important thing is not just price, but what’s included (installation, warranty, glass spec, finishing).

Getting at least 2–3 local independent quotes is usually the best way to confirm if you’re actually getting a fair deal or just a marketing discount.

    Welcome to the forum.

    • frame quality (standard vs premium uPVC)

Just would like to expand on this comment, for any other readers.

Due to the stringent testing to quality standards ( for UV resistance etc ) the variation in quality of the raw material used to make the frames from one manufacturer to another, is not great. So there is no 'standard vs premium' for the actual UPVC compound raw material used to make the frames, although as always some companies will make claims about their products.

There will be variations in frame design and in this area, is where you will see differences from a bog standard simple frame, to more attractive/complex designs. Better security on doors. Better locks, handles etc
