Insect infestation
Ok, maybe infestation is a little strong but I've been encountering a lot of these small, beetle type insects in the house, mainly in the kitchen but also other rooms facing the back of the house where I've had windows open. Not sure what they are, probably around 2-3mm in length, nearest I could get off Google was a Hide beetle. Any ideas?

Hide beetles are 6-11mm long.
Closest I could find is a Aderus Populneus which is about the right size and looks similar. Doesn't appear to be a major problem in a household environment. But if you are worried, a bit of fly/wasp spray should kill them off - The stuff contains permethrin which kills most insects.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

They could be adult weevils. Check all your dried food especially flour and flour products like pasta. If they are in there you have to throw the lot out and clean. That will get rid of them

If it is a hide beetle, then if you think you don't have an infestation now... You soon will.
I'd get onto a deep clean of your kitchen cupboards pronto.

I am pretty sure it is one of the hide beetles, the nearest I can get to it by appearance is Dermestes maculatus but that is considerably longer than 3mm. Can you confirm the length be measuring one and get a picturing the underside?

Actually, you're right, it's probably more like 6mm

Totally different beetle, the OPs specimen is quite hairy and has clubbed antennae.

Looks similar, I was wrong about the length it was probably about 6mm or slightly more. I do have a big open field at the back of the house so often get unusual bugs flying in but only noticed these in the past week, just one or two at a time but there most days/evenings. I did have an old wasps nest in the roof above the kitchen which I killed off last year, I wonder if that's attracting them. I've not seen any in the kitchen cupboards.
One thing I've just started doing is using one of those food waste caddies but I'm going to stop using that now just in case.
