We currently have a problem with pigeons roosting on our roof and getting under the solar panels so I'm looking into the best way of preventing them getting under. I've had a couple of quotes to fit wire mesh around the edges ranging from £500 to £800 which at first sounded a bit steep. Do these quotes sound ok and is wire…

Hybrid inverters
I've been looking a little into hybrid inverters with battery and it seems that givenergy has a good developing Web portal and app, however I've been told that the maximum the 3.6kw inverter can do is 3.6kw combined solar and battery which doesn't seem a lot when some house loads can spike quite high. The lux inverter…

Delighted with octopus electricity not overly impressed with the new gas offering
Re posted as deleted by admin I mentioned something I'm not allowed to Hi I am on Octopus for both Electricity and Gas. Electricity is Go Faster which suits me very well with Solar PV and Battery storage however my first year gas contract is coming to an end and the new quote is less than impressive. Currently I'm on 17.85…

Real world output from 4kWp?
I've been looking into panel specs and the advertised kWp assumes that you have 1000w/sqm hitting them, when you drop down to 800w/sqm you lose around 100kwp per panel! Does that therefore make the real world output of a 4kWp system around 3000w max assuming you only get 800w/sqm of sunlight on a 10 panel system?

Switch to ground source heat pump with RHI
I have moved to a cottage in the Forest of Dean which has an oil boiler with oil tank in the garden. I was looking into the possibility of switching to a ground/air source heat pump. I spoke to a local service - Forest Eco Systems - which installs them, and based on my property's EPC they suggest that I could get RHI equal…

Solar Payback
So I know that these days it's really not feasiable for these panels to save you a considerable amount of money now that the FiT scheme has gone and I've tried to base my calculations on realistic use. Would you say 30 years ROI is a sensible assumption on a system costing £4650?

Heat pump hot water cylinders
Does anyone here have, or have seriously considered installing, a heat pump hot water cylinder? Something like the Tesy Aqua Thermica (other brands are available)? At first glance it looks an interesting idea.
