Anyone used EON solar?
Trust pilot reviews don't seem particularly great but supposedly they're quite good value for money. Do they sub contract the work or do they have their own installation team? Do you have to take an EON tariff to get the panels or are you simply purchasing them off them?

4kw system with only 8 panels?
My roof only has enough area for 8 panels, I don't want to go for a 2kw system as it doesn't seem as worthwhile, have panel capacities (density?) increased at all to the point where I can get somewhere near 4kw (3.6 would be fine!) Are there installers which would facilitate this?

solar self consumption device.....
I am considering solar for my large south east facing roof, I know Im not going to save the planet on my own but every little helps. I have mains gas heating, & a large hot water tank with two immersion heaters installed.(economy 7 style) As fits are low my main objective is self consumption, so to this end a solar…

Solar quote confusion
I’ve been getting in quotes for a solar system and wow it’s confusing! I’ve only used MCS installers and the range is huge - from £6800 for 5.4kw to £4200 for 2.9 kw. No one seems to quote for the same size and I’ve been trying to compare based on £ per watt (installed value, not produced) which gives me £1.44-£1.26 per…

Green and Ethical Food
I started this thread so we can discuss green and ethical food and how it can save money as well as providing better nutrition and regenerating our soil and ecosystems. Meat:- Food animals that are "fed naturally" as in grass fed cattle offer better nutrition than grain fed, steroid enhanced animals pumped full of…

What sort of heating?
I'm buying a 1980s 2 bed mid-terrace house with a tiny garden. It only has a gas fire in the lounge and an immersion-heated water tank. There is no central heating. What is the most cost-effective way of heating the house and water? Gas, electric storage, ground heat pump? TIA

Zappi and home battery
Hello, I'm planning to have solar installed at home shortly, and I'm considering whether to also opt for a Zappi and/or a home battery to help make the use of the energy generated. However, I really can't understand how a Zappi would interact with a home battery if I opted to have both installed. For example: - it's a…

British Gas Solar Feed in Tariff - meter reading problem
Hi,Been getting the FIT tariff from BG for the last ten years. I didn't get the usual email asking me to enter my quarterly FIT meter reading. When I go to https://www.britishgas.co.uk/feed-in-tariff/ the online form tells me my installation ID is incorrect, should be 10 characters and start "50".My installation ID starts…

Premium bonds
Hi all, I hope everyone is safe and well. I have some money invested in NSA&I premium bonds, but I’m at a loss in finding out what they’re invested in. Are they just a giant bulk savings job with all investors money in one safe pot? Or are they invested in ‘things’, if so - what ‘things’?! And how do they make a profit for…

Your help and advice requested please to optimise the configuration for best use of available power.I have had the former two for several years using any xs power to heat a greenhouse and an immersion heater. Solar Panel Quote
Just been recommended to post here for wider answers from the Energy section We are looking to get solar panels installed. We drive one EV and looking to purchase a second. Presently averaging 1100 kW electricity usage per month. We are out during the day so there is only 'tick over' electricity usage during working hours.…

Worth getting solar pv?
There are some very knowledgeable people on this forum and I’d be grateful for your thoughts. My gas boiler is ancient and I’m planning to replace it with an air source heat pump. I’m wondering whether it’s also worth getting solar pv. I have an end terrace house with a hipped roof so the surfaces are quite small and…

Quick Solar Panel PV question about differing outputs
Hi, Apologies if this question goes over old ground elsewhere in the forum, but it's quite urgent. I am having solar thermal (thanks, green homes grant) installed next week (19 May) with the scaffolding going up tomorrow (14 May). I am also having solar PV installed at the same time. My supplier has just told me that they…

Specification for a Solar System
Inspired by these two threads: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6192502/solar-pv-battery-quotes/p1 and https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6215701/considering-solar-pv-installation#latest I think I can set about solar PV as a project for 2021. Particularly by reference to the capital indicated by…

Battery lawnmowers
The less green lawnmowers are always specified by power, e.g. horsepower, Watts) but battery lawnmowers are specified by the voltage of the battery. We might think that a 40-volt lawnmower is twice the power of a 20-volt lawnmower. What is the typical power range of a battery lawnmower?

Salt Water Batteries

Domestic battery experiences (on grid)
Hi all, I thought it might be helpful to have a thread where people share there experiences of domestic batteries and inverters, their likes and dislikes, advantages and disadvantages of each system, so we can all learn what system may best suit us individually. It may be a lofty aim. But I figured it was worth a go. So my…

EPC ignoring insulation work
We had an EPC done to get an idea of the "official" energy status of the house. It is an old house with solid wall which has been insulated with dry wall insulation 50mm thick, an extension with cavity wall insulation and also extra dry wall insulation, all floor boards done with 200mm rock wool and also draught proofed,…

Wind Power vs. Solar
I have a solar PV installation with 16 x 300 W panels. My average generation (taking the average for the full 24 hours of a day) over about two years has been around 430 W per hour. There is obviously no generation when it is dark and not much in the depths of winter, even in daylight. Is this sort of average power beyond…
