Battery

Options
Hi all was after some advice I currently have a 3.6kwh south facing solar had since 2016 and now looking to add battery storage , my current inverter is a Growatt 4000, on average we seem to produce 3559.67kWh for the year (according to my fit payments bills). Our electric bill usage for the year is 2027kWh according to last bill.
So far only had one quote waiting on a few more he quoted as follows
AC COUPLED GROWATT +6.5 BATTERY STORRAGE UNIT fitted £3960 this was just a rough he gots to call out and discuss we are based in Stoke on Trent.

I would like to be able to top up the battery at night using the cheap electric can anybody advise what sort of system we should be looking at would rather pay a bit more now and be happy that I got the right system
Thanks

I'd look at the Givenergy batteries. Pricing for the updated 9.5kWh battery is coming soon but should be sub £5k for an AC coupled install if you shop around.

    4 Pylons plus a ME3000 would be 9.6kWh for around £4000.
    4kWp (black/black) - Sofar Inverter - SSE(141°) - 30° pitch - North Lincs
    Installed June 2013 - PVGIS = 3400
    Sofar ME3000SP Inverter & 5 x Pylontech US2000B Plus & 3 x US2000C Batteries - 19.2kWh

I'm starting to now consider battery storage for my solar system and this is exactly what I'd like to be paying.  Is this a special price or is it fairly usual when I start getting quotes in?

Also, how does it work with the iBoost?  Does it heat water first and then charge batteries?

    Thanks

Someone else will have to answer the iBoost question.

My poor man's iBoost is a wifi enabled fused spur.

I have a solic... poor mans iBoost.. works fine MOST of the time.. so batteries  first then water... very infrequently the solic decides that the battery is excess power so takes power from there to heat the water.. as I said infrequently .. I dont even bother checking any more as its a rare problem

I'd avoid growatt personally,  my experience of them wasn't good.
Slow to switch and slow to ramp up/down.
Sofar and lux are much better in my experience

IBoost+ and iBoost Buddy installed last September 2021, with Solar Array 5.2 kW, Solar does base load then Hot water tank, instead of gas boiler, Nest thermostat controls on/off for hot water, off at moment.... iBoost shows used 444 kW to heat water... @0.1678p peak (tariff with Octopus) saving £74.50 in seven months, if you boil a kettle, or turn microwave on the iboost+ will default to wait for excess solar, that is turn off, same when solar charging car via Hypervolt 2.0 at 1.4 kW @ 6 amps. works very well, the iBoost Buddy is your control device you can setup anywhere in the house and will show import of solar energy heating hot water and when hot water is hot, show Hot Water , plus import energy on graphical scale for items like microwave, oven and car ev charging at 7kW (max show of 5866w must be the limit of the iBoost+ scale same on iBoost Buddy. Have yet to get battery storage but informed that batteries will take precedent over the Hot Water.. Going Solax X1 AC 3.6 kW inverter battery storage to prevent certain DC conflicts with battery and SEG instead of in one Solax X1 Hybrid 3.6 kW solar + battery charger and inverter

Well had a few quotes they all came in pretty much same Givenergy seems to be popular choice but i have read a shortage have been told by one supplier  they would be available in June and that would be the 8.2 Kwh battery as they ordered before they stopped taking anymore orders has anybody waiting on supply had any updates.
As dont want to be left waiting months as can go for the Growatt batteries and inverter looking round seems to get some decent reviews yes i know a few people will not buy it but as long the item works and does what i want it to thats good enough for me.

There is a lot to be said for the flexibility of the Pylontech batteries, particularly if you think you might want to add more storage later.

On a practical note, ours would be in the loft and it would be a challenge to get a 60kg plus single battrry up the loft hatch.
