Flat solar panels?
Hi So I've requested planning permission for 8 solar panels on my flat roof. I've been advised that there are no issues with 6 of the panels at the rear dormer, but the two at the front would either need to be removed or laid flat. This is because the council bvelieves that the panels at the front would visually affect the…

Dead Inverter - Growatt Replacement for SMA. Notify for FIT payments?
The day has come when my inverter has given up. It's a SMA SunnyBoy HF3000 and although the display still shows the total generation and boots up ok there isn't anything showing as grid or panel voltages. Restarted it a couple of times to see if that made a difference and no joy. Suggestion is to replace it but undecided…

Site Export Limit - Additional Solar
I have solar panels spread across 2 buildings with 2 orientations: facing 140 and 230 degrees. My 6.35kWp of panels are controlled by a single SolarEdge inverter capped at 5kW. There is also a Powerwall 2. My site export limit is 11kVA. I thought that I would look at whether it is possible/financially sensible to put a…

Could new piping save money?
So I've got microbore pipework, and I've seen that replacing radiators does indeed mean you spend less on the new ones, at least in pure running costs Though I'm not sure if that'd be the same for pipework? I will probably want to replace my pipework anyway, because microbore CAN work with a heat pump, but it isn't exactly…

SolarImmersion & Wifi Timer Switch
I have a SolarImmersion unit that diverts my solar power to my hot water tank immersion heater. Outdoor Housing for Battery and Inverter
I have run out of viable space (that Mrs will let me use) to house my inverter and battery for when my solar arrives next month (GivEnergy). So have been looking at alternatives. Originally looked at stainless steel and GRP kiosks but that was going to cost me nearly £1500. So now i am thinking just making a 2m x 1m x 0.4m…

Solax vs Libbi batteries
The Solax batteries "work with Octopus" but so does their inverter Surely if you have their inverter, it doesn't matter so much that their batteries work with Octopus? Libbi afaik doesn't. Am I correct in thinking that it doesn't matter as long as you've got an inverter that "works with Octopus"?

Solar inverter over voltage reports.
I wondered if anyone else had come across this. Today I noticed a lot of alerts from one of my inverters and on digging into the data I see these are over voltage reports. The faults caused my inverter to shut down numerous times. Are these related to the grid voltage being too high or is it something to do with the…

smart export payments
By generating electricity, you’re making Britain greener. That’s because all the electricity you don’t use at home feeds into the national grid, contributing to the total amount of renewable power. You’re paid a set rate for this power through your Feed-in Tariff contract, based on an estimate that you export 50% of what…
