Maintaining solar pv battery life
I have recently had solar panels fitted and a give energy battery. Due to the time of year the battery is not charging to its full capacity and what charge I do gain is quickly used in the evenings. Is it bad for the battery if it does not charge fully? The factory setting is to stop discharging at 4%. Is there any advice…

Low Efficiency from Panels - What Numbers Should I be Seeing?
I'm troubled by the efficiency readings I'm getting from my system and would appreciate some advice. We are in the north Manchester area, the ridge line of our roof (+/- 30 degrees pitch) is exactly N/S and we have 11 panels on both sides of the roof (ie 22 panels) - JA Solar 410W Mono MBB and a 5kw Sunsynk inverter. No…

Mid terraced North facing roof - Panels?
My parents have a mid terraced house, and they've also got an attic. The attic is on top of the roof, and that part faces south. The rest of the roof faces north. Would it be wise then to even get solar panels if they face north? On the flip side, I guess it'd be cheaper due to limitations based entirely on roof size

Washing powdery vs washing strips
I got a free trial (pay for postage) on one of those washing strip laundry detergents from Earth Breeze When I got it, I thought "This dissolves just like powder" and then I thought "Surely this is just a more convenient, more expensive and potentially less green version of washing powder"? I say potentially less green…

How to measure shading for solar panel instalation
My 2 storey house has roof pitches facing (nearly) East & West. Jutting out from the house is a long single storey extension (living space and garage). I think the South facing pitch on the extension would get the most sun, particularly if I placed the panels at the far (West) side. There's so little sun at this time of…

Looking at Solar Panels - Updated-Now installed
Been considering solar panels for a long time now, but like most, with the recent rises have decided to dig a bit deeper.British Gas estimate my annual electricity usage as 5418.00 kWh.Been doing a lot of readong on the forums, as i'm based in Kent, dropped Light Renewable a message to see with what they come back…

Help sizing an air-to-air heat pump
I am on the point of ordering an air-to-air heat pump (air conditioning unit). I would be grateful for advive on what size unit to go for. The room is North-West facing kitchen/diner/living room around 35m2. It is well insulated and currently heated by a 7000 BTU radiator (the second radiator is returned off). I have been…

Myenergi Zappi and Eddi
If you've got batteries, do you necessarily "need" the myenergi products? Especially when, with enough batteries you're not exactly exporting that power back into the grid?

Dehumidifier v Tumble Dryer
Winters coming. Anyone used a dehumidifier in a practical way to dry clothes? Was it effective? How did you do it? Thanks

Dehumidifiers
Newspapers are full of pseudo-scientific articles promoting humidifiers as part of the current energy conscious world however their is little solid reasoning and I don't know if dehumidifiers are worth it for people without respiratory illnesses. I get a bit of damp in my house, which is especially noticable if we go away…

Solar Panel - Any Views on this ?
Hi I am looking to do a complete re-roof on my property and have had a few quotes. This seems to be the best one and I am looking for some technical view on the equipment rather than what the cost is as I have managed to reduce costs down a fair bit. I am still unsure of the in-roof integrated solutions as there are mixed…

Growatt 6.5 solar battery
Hi, I have had the above installed as an addition to solar panels, but was surprised to find that the battery fills up overnight to 100%, so that in the morning - when the sun shines - my battery is already full. As a newbie to all this it seems a bit daft to me, so I queried it with the supplier and he told me it's to…

Batteries only?
Silly question maybe, but is it possible to do a battery only installation, and charge them overnight on a cheaper Economy7 or similar tariff? We use between 15-20KWh per day, so 12-18KWh battery capacity should in theory allow us to not have to draw any electricity at peak day time prices. Is this something that is…

Solar sizing 4kw Vs 4.8kw
Hi all, I'm looking to get solar panels and have had a few quotes so far. It's a South facing bungalow in East Anglia with no shading. Most have quoted for 4kw which is 10 panels, one has quoted for 4.8kw which is 12. 12 almost fill the roof space and you couldn't fit anymore. So, my question is which is best? The inverter…

GivEnergy app
I recently had a GivEnergy inverter and battery installed but after updates to my home broadband I have lost connection to the WiFi dongle. I use Tp-Link Deco P9 MESH routers so there is a strong Wi-Fi signal. I have tried following the guidance sheet from my installer for connecting, but cannot get the dongle to connect…

Should I get a night time tariff?
I've got 8 solar panels, and a piddly little 3.3KwH battery. I was wondering then if I should use a might time tariff? Or should I wait? I aim to get my flat roof reinforced, add another 8 panels and more batteries once the flat roof is reinforced too. I've already bought an inverter that can handle that 16 panel capacity

Is iBoost really worth it?
So we've recently had 4.8kw worth of Solar Panels fitted on our South facing roof, in addition to this, we have had iBoost fitted. We are just about to sign up for Outgoing Octopus which pays 15p per KWH of exported Electricity, we are on the standard variable for gas (10.24p per KWH) and therefore am wondering if its any…

SolarEdge Inverter Failure -> Warranty Claim/ Actual Experience
For those considering PV, it doesn't take much to learn your options for an inverter are quite varied. In my humble view, SolarEdge has always been a pragmatic middle ground. Not quite as expensive as Enphase/ Tesla and not poor quality as many of the Chinese brands. Much to my surprise, the SE inverter at a family…
