Solax advice
Hi - I see a few members here have Solax inverter/battery systems and I wonder if they can help me make a decision? I have 5.7kWp on the roof, perfectly south facing, with a 5.0kW Fronius inverter. I've done some careful modelling of electricity usage and have come to the conclusion that adding a battery is a reasonably…

Energy costs
Assuming that I've calculated everything correctly, assuming I'm producing 4000 kWh a year, and assuming this calculator is correct. Costs are based on projected April 2023 prices https://www.in2gr8tedsolutions.co.uk/index.php Then my costs are as follows : I require typically around 300 kWh a month or 3700 kWh a year.…

Solar Battery - Yes/No?
I'm back with another solar related question, but first of all wanted to thank @Screwdriva for his help in getting my solar installation quote down significantly. The question: What are the factors (or does anyone have a algorithm/calculator) to help decided if I should add battery storage to solar panels? For context the…

Help on solar panel installation location
Hi, We are currently getting quotes for solar and possibly battery on our home. We have lots of roof space but as its made up of two extensions its not a nice simple layout! We've had two different offerings in regard location of panels. Both recommend location A for 6/7 panels and then they differ with either location B…

Polysolar windows and solargaps blinds?
So, The windows of polysolar apparently cost £250/Square metre with around 15% efficiency https://www.renewableenergyhub.co.uk/main/solar-panels/windows-with-solar-panels-built-in/ I'm not sure how much solar gaps cost however here's a sort of review / criticism of them…

Internet Routers - Don't turn them off?
As part of an ongoing complaint correspondence I have with Vodafone, I've been told that you can damage your router by turning it off and on. I've been turning off mine to save electricity when not using it. I think it's browbeating on their part. Speeds might be affected, but damage?

FYI if considering solar
Having just gone down this journey there is something I think everyone should check if considering the same. Make 100% sure that when they arrive on the day of installation that the panels, inverters, batteries etc are EXACTLY what you ordered. In my case when they arrived I noticed the panels they were taking out the van…

Heat pump hot water cylinders
So, most of these have a COP of 3.6 (theoretical) Ie: At 35.4p/ kWh per unit, they theoretically they cost 9.83p/kWh vs 10p on gas. Or they don't technically but it's easy comparison and helps compare apples to apples somewhat The heat batteries can be charged at 12p/KWh at night and that's not theoretical. That's just a…

Induction vs gas, running costs
I'll be eventually moving away from gas regardless, and the odd person might think that induction will at least be on parity with gas when it comes to running costs If you want to see that maths broken down, see https://www.trustedreviews.com/explainer/can-induction-hobs-save-you-money-4230890 Again, I'll be ditching gas…

Going fully electric - Do you have to change your shower?
Let's say you've got a heat pump, and heat cylinder You've moved away from gas entirely, and are now using electricity only for everything. Do you have to change your shower to an electric one? Or can it pull "heat" from the pipes, kinda like your taps would? Would it also be more efficient to simply replace it to a proper…

Solar Quote Validation
Hi all, I've got a quote from a local solar company, who have come to the house. I'm very comfortable with them as a company, they're very local and seem very nice. What they say seems to make sense to me and, in general, I like what they propose but I'm far from an expert. Obviously it'd make sense to get a second…

Induction vs gas - Experiment
So to more truly work out more scientifically if induction cookers are more expensive to run than gas, I think I've got a plan 1. Buy one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/285108017820 2. Buy 1 "cooking thermometer" 3. Use one stop watch 4. Use one energy monitoring plug, for the induction cooker. I could just look at…

Ventive Home B?
I came across this https://ventive.co.uk/products/home/ And I'm not sure how something like that would compare against - Standalone ASHP - Standalone heated cyclinder - "Standalone" MVHR Does anyone know how that *might* be different? I've asked them how they ensure 2 ACH at night even in a leaky house too

Cheaper alternative to planetcare?
So this is a two fold purchase - One is that it's good to remove all plastics anyway - Two is my washing machine RRPs at over £2200. I got a new Miele WWR860WPS for £700 on eBay, so it helps protect the washing machine too I've looked at this https://planetcare.org/ Are there perhaps cheaper (and maybe greener) options…

Consuming excess solar with smart plugs?
Hi all, I've recently had a 4.8kw solar system installed, I decided against a battery and hot water diverter due to cost and value for money. My inverter is a Solis S6 and has an app to monitor generation but not it seems consumption. I am currently using my smart meter to keep an eye on the exported energy. I'd like to…

UW Club rip off?
UWClub pay my export tariff at 4.1p But despite me trying to get an answer to this, they only pay me for 50% of what I generate. Its to cover what I use. i dont use any, I dont have a storage system. For 10 years I have been trying to get them to stop cheating me. Its a disgrace.

Adding ac battery, new dno
Hi, I'm slowly coming around to the idea of adding a battery to my solar panels , although i will wait until late next year for the market to calm down a bit. Probably add quite a few panels to existing system to ensure i avoid 20% vat at same time I understand if i add storage at the AC side, this will require a new DNO…
