Cheaper alternative to planetcare?
So this is a two fold purchase - One is that it's good to remove all plastics anyway - Two is my washing machine RRPs at over £2200. I got a new Miele WWR860WPS for £700 on eBay, so it helps protect the washing machine too I've looked at this https://planetcare.org/ Are there perhaps cheaper (and maybe greener) options…

Consuming excess solar with smart plugs?
Hi all, I've recently had a 4.8kw solar system installed, I decided against a battery and hot water diverter due to cost and value for money. My inverter is a Solis S6 and has an app to monitor generation but not it seems consumption. I am currently using my smart meter to keep an eye on the exported energy. I'd like to…

UW Club rip off?
UWClub pay my export tariff at 4.1p But despite me trying to get an answer to this, they only pay me for 50% of what I generate. Its to cover what I use. i dont use any, I dont have a storage system. For 10 years I have been trying to get them to stop cheating me. Its a disgrace.

Thermal Store
Having just pulled our small old farm house back to basics, i would like any information possible as to installing a thermal store. we will have 3 bedrooms a bathroom 1 kitchen/utility and 1/2 small lounge areas. I would ideally like a range cooker to run off electricity .and radiators for heating in winter. We are…

Adding ac battery, new dno
Hi, I'm slowly coming around to the idea of adding a battery to my solar panels , although i will wait until late next year for the market to calm down a bit. Probably add quite a few panels to existing system to ensure i avoid 20% vat at same time I understand if i add storage at the AC side, this will require a new DNO…

Solar and battery vs ASHP
Hi everyone, I wanted to test some of my thinking on either of these options for my house. For background, we originally brought a newly renovated property in September. It has internal wall insulation, high performance glazing, loft insulation and good roof insulation. Overall, we really like the property but there’s one…

Solar - real-life experience of investment vs return
Hi, I've been interested in solar panels / batteries for a while. My research to date has been limited to personal posts on Facebook where only a couple of very vocal (and mainly anti solar panel) people contributed. The situation is that both my wife and I work from home. House was built around 1998. It's a brick built,…

The compications of Luxpower monitor and app
I have just had a system installed (22 panels, 2 x batteries and an invertor) all seems to be working well but as I don't understand the Luxpower front end fully I can never be sure. For example as I am running on Octopus agility juice I was surprised to find that the EV was only partially charged last night whilst the…

Buying a house with solar panels
Reposting this post to green & ethical MoneySaving category after the suggestion from one member I am a first time buyer. I have made an offer for a terraced house which was accepted. In offer we made, seller told that he will take the solar panels. Now he came back to us saying that can give his solar panels(no battery…

mid-terraced house in Gloucestershire. House was built around 1950s. Recently
cavity walls were filled, and loft was insulated. All windows are double
glazed. I have 8x405W MBB Half-cell Module solar panels. Property currently

How much have you cut you gas consumption by?
I would guess that since the price of domestic gas rose to 10.2p/kWh many of us will have reduced our consumption. How successful have you been during Oct/Nov/Dec compared with 2021? 2021 - 7273kWh 2022 - 3889kWh (-46%)

Most optimal solution for AC coupled battery installation
I'm seriously tempted to add a battery to our current set up, but am not very good at math and just not sure which set up would be most beneficial. We are limited to the AC coupled installation due to the solar panels being leased. The solar array that we have is about 3kw (and no option to upgrade this due to the lease).…

Record breaking 2022 for Solar
Has anyone else found that 2022 has been a record year for solar generation? Previously 2020 was the best from the last 11 years but we've now beaten that with a month to go so even if the sun doesn't shine at all for December then 2022 is still the highest for the last 11 years. If December is average we'll have got…

My system's performance - Using PVGIS to get an accurate generation?
Hi all, this is really just a brain dump with a few questions, I may have just got particularly lucky with my install, it's performing spectacularly and I'm not sure if it's 'normal'. I would like other users opinions, especially those with a few years of data under their belt, and also wonder what others put into PVGIS to…

Heat Pump integrated into Hot Water Cylinders (Vaillant, Daikin etc.)
Seems like a sensible way to reduce hot water heating costs without going with a heat pump for the entire household. I wonder if any users/ owners are out there? https://www.ariston.com/en-uk/products/heat-pumps/air-source-heat-pump-water-heater/nuos-plus-wifi-uk/

PV only, or Solar Thermal too?
Hi We're building a new house in Somerset. It'll be very well-insulated and energy-efficient ; almost a "passive house" but not quite ... It'll have an air pump. There are two options for heating: StoreEdge 5.3kW Solar PVs only; or 3.9 PV and Solar Thermal. There will be a 10kWh StoreEdge battery. The PV-only option is…

Impressive Performance of Sharp 400W Panel installation!
Recently helped a friend with his PV install for his Billericay (Basildon) home. 12 X 400W Sharp panels + SE optimizers tied to a SolarEdge 5000 inverter. Aspect is South Facing with minimal shading. We both had clear sunny winter skies yesterday. The nearly 3X difference in generation of 15.5 kWh for the day is a bit…
