Upcoming Solar Panel Install - But smart meter not showing Export
Hi, Hoping this is the right place to post this (it's energy related) Hopefully someone can help. I have an upcoming solar panel installation and have been checking the criteria for the SEG - it would appear my “old” British Gas SMETS I smart meter (Landi+Gyr E470) doesn’t show a counter for export data. (I have followed…

MyEnergi's Libbi Battery on Fully Charged show
Episode here. I'm not sold on the need for a battery, especially when I'm selling energy for 15p to Octopus and buying it for less via Octopus Agile import. However, if my consumption patterns heavily skewed towards nighttime usage, or I had much higher consumption (EVs, heat pump), the Libbi seems like a quality UK…

Options for 8KwP Array with battery storage 60m away
Currently planning our solar install and have two main questions. My situation is that I have a roof that can take 21 panels, so ~8KwP, located about 60m from the electricity meter. We have two armoured cables running from the meter, one to the house and the other to the outbuilding. I need a battery solution that can…

Looking for ipa similar to brewdog that’s made from uk hops
Hi im disappointed to find out that none of brewdogs beers are made with uk grown hops. I know they do “offsetting” but I don’t believe that actually does anything… so I’m looking for something similar to punk ipa but that’s brewed in the UK and from UK hops. grateful for recommendations!

Solar PV - meter questions
Hi, We are pretty much decided on an installer and spec now, and ready to place an order, but just one nagging thing I thought I would canvas opinion for on here. When looking at our existing meter box, the installer said there wasn't enough room in there, and he would need to install a second meter box above the existing…

Off-grid solar system in Spain.
A friend has asked me about an off-grid solar system for there small house (on a 60 acre estate) in Spain. They would run a generator otherwise. This is a quote they have received. It is for a ground mounted system. My gut feeling is a bigger battery might be useful and maybe more panels. They have a pool, so a heat pump…

Wanting to reduce gas usage - New Heating Design Circuit - will it work?
Hello, I'm looking at installing a new central heating system with UHF on the ground floor and normal rads on the 1st Floor. The design was initially to have at its heart an System Boiler and a Telford Tempest 500l Indirect Cylinder but I would like to reduce my Gas consumption and have been particularly impressed by…

Airtightness
Hi Prior to getting say an MVHR, the house needs to be airtight for maximum efficiency. The house is already well insulated but not sure if it is entirely airtight When I look for people who would make it more airtight as well as know what kind of what the current level of airtightness is, I'm not too sure on what kind of…

Octopus Go or Agile?
So I'm getting a 3.2KwH system installed with a battery. I intend on upgrading this to 6.4 KwH in the future, and more batteries. The only thing stopping me from putting more panels on atm is that I need a structural survey and planning permission. Those two are required because I've got a flat roof. I can have 8 panels…

Generic solar query
Hi all I wondered whether it's possible (and cheaper?) to source panels/batteries/inverter myself, or if it makes more sense to go through a company. I only ask as I'm finding it hard to actually get a quote back from a company, and also figure if I can do it myself then it will cut out the middle man who will add their…

Quote for solar, is this a good price? - Updated
Edit: I made this post back in August, I'm editing it now in October after having my system installed, see the bottom of page 5 for details. /Edit Solar panels have always been on my 'wish list' of home improvements, but the recent spikes in prices have spurred me into looking into it more closely. We recently had a firm…

Smart Meters
Good evening all. For many years I’ve been badgered to have a smart meter. Now in preparation for solar I’ve tried to get one. Having received no replies from Scottish Power I managed to tweet them and have been told my property is now not “smart meter ready”. So my questions are what does “not smart ready” mean and what…

Help on Solar Panel Setup
Following very helpful guidance from people on here, I'm a bit torn on what set up to go for my E/W facing roof (35° pitch, ridge facing south, 2 storey house). My east facing roof has 0 shading, while my west facing roof is facing a line of trees about 10 meters away. If I put in panels both side of the ridge, I'm…

EV equivalent tariff for home batteries
Does anyone know of an EV equivalent tariff that could be used for charging up home batteries. It seems illogical that, if it is economic to have a tariff for electric vehicles, why they don't have one for home batteries that could change up using the same timings to use the same excess night time power. Thanks David
